Regretably, the Sunshine State could have easily passed for Portland or Seattle today. Gray nasty and drizzling all day long. Four fingers of Mr. John Jameson usually does a fine job of removing the damp from my bones. Cheers fellas! Here's to the weekend!
I bet it gets pretty bad down there in FLA, the biting wind, the driving rain and the cold..... the absolutely horrendous cold.
Good God Man! It's not even 70 degrees out there, it's absolutely inhumane! But seriously, I think it's a matter of perspective. I've lived lots of places that were seriously horrendous cold (Fairbanks, Alaska and Iceland to name just a couple). It's all according to what you're used to and those of us who live down here are pretty darned spoiled when it comes to weather. When I lived in Fairbanks it wasn't uncommon for me to go out and run or cross country ski all day at 30 below zero or colder. Now anything much below 50 degrees and I'm housebound until the weather warms up. On that note, I'll go fetch another Jameson.
Snagged a bottle of The Dalmore 12 today and I have to say not to bad probably a good 12 to keep around the house.

Nothing big. Woodford Reserve to cap off a RARE date night with my darlin' wife

Lovely Balvenie Caribbean Cask. Spicy goodness.
Balvenie 12yr and laphroaig 10 year are my two everyday drinking scotches. For special occasions I have a bottle of Laphroaig 18yr.
A left over meatloaf sandwich (cheese, mayo, dijon mustard on Cuban Bread) with a Jameson chaser.
Just finished a glass of Glenlivet 12 yr...might have to have one more before bedtime!
Having myself a nice glass of Blanton's. I'm sad to see my bottle is running low, and it's not sold here in Canada. Oh well, rumour has it that there's plenty of whiskey to be had up here in the Northwoods.Attachment 90758
Had a glass of Old George.. a small batch whiskey sold in Traverse City, MI by Grand Traverse Distillery. Also had Bruichladdich Rocks which is an un-peated scotch. Very smooth. Since tomorrow is my birthday may have to go out and buy a new bottle to celebrate with.
Elmer T Lee today. It is becoming my regular go-to bourbon when I want something simple.
I would drink Laphroaig everyday if I could afford it.
Crown Royal Perfect Manhattan after my shave!
I could never really get down with crown, not sure why, although I've also never tried a manhattan
A Manhattan is great...the mixer is more alcohol! I would have to say that I prefer a Bourbon Manhattan over anything Canadian, but I thought I'd give it a whirl!
What is the recipe you normally use
I haven't read all the posts so forgive me if it was previously mentioned. 12 yr Dalmore is a great scotch. My freind introduced me to Dalmore after it was the favorite pick at a scotch tasting event. Dalmore is around 44.00 but beat out all the others including several very expensive brands. It was a blindfolded tasting as well. It has a wonderful flavor and is great over ice.
One of my favourite Scotch's is Bowmore 18 yr old. If you like a smokey fiery scotch, you can't beat it.
Bowmore is a great scotch. I had the pleasure of tasting some at a Whiskey and Scotch bar in Kalamazoo, MI called Winston's. I really need to expand my collection but my wife says I need to drink what I have first. I guess she is right since I am the only one who drinks it in my house and a bottle can last me a year or more since I don't tend to drink more than once or twice a week.
My go-to bourbon for mixed cocktails is Maker's Mark. One shot Maker's (usually just a generous pour), a splash of Extra Dry Vermouth, a splash of Sweet Vermouth, a dash of Angostura Bitters, and two cherries to garnish (usually a wee bit of the cherry juice too).
This is my drink of choice when honing and relaxing a full bodied and amazing sherry cask
I didn't have any. :(
However, I do have a question for you gents. Have any of you tried Shakelton's whiskey (Mackinlay's) blend? Also, has anyone from the US purchased it? This is the scotch that was blended based on the cases left behind by the Shakelton Antarctic expedition back in 1907-ish and there are only 50,000 bottles made. I can't seem to find a company in the US that sells it and all overseas companies ship via Royal Mail which converts to USPS in the US and it's illegal to ship booze by USPS in the US.
Anyone?
Ive had booze shipped to my house before. I didnt know it was illegal

Like everything else I have posted in the forums, I am relatively new to Scotch. I decided to give Laphroaig a try based on good reviews. Wasn't ready for the smokiness/peatiness...WOW! I tried it neat and then had to add a couple rocks and it grew on my. Definitely an enjoyable Scotch, but I'm still more of a Balvenie guy!
So am I the only one who drinks my scotch neat??
I drink my bourbon neat but occasionally I put ice in JD.
I prefer neat myself. Having said that, a splash of water from a glacier fed river in caribou camp is nice.
Laphroig quarter cask accompanies all my hunting trips. Its great around a campfire.
I was given a bottle of Obans as thanks for taking friends into my moose hunting camp and am enjoying that very much.
Awesome thread.

Having a glass of Laphroaig before bed. Gonna try it neat!
The tipple of the evening is Chivas Royal Salute, created to celebrate the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Aged 21 years after the traditional 21 Gun Salute. Available in 3 different coloured porcelain flagon, each comes in a velvet bag. Simply beautiful.
This evening is the turn of the 'Sapphire' flagon, and a measure I would describe as a generous 'slug' neat of course.

The monster
The tipple this evening was lurking in the background yesterday. This bottle was bought for me by my brother last week.
Monkey Shoulder, a blend of 3 Speyside malts, Kininvie, Balvenie and Glenfiddich.
The bottle is adorned with 3 brass monkeys, one for each of the malts.
'Monkey Shoulder' was a nickname given to a temporary injury some malt men occasionaly suffered many years ago as a result of repeatedly bending over whilst turning the malt with wooden shovels.
This is my first glass, very smooth, malty sweet, dry, a bit of vanilla, very drinkable actually, I can see this finding a regular place.
A nice little 'slug' in a heavy Jasper Conran Waterford crystal tumbler.

Nope, sometimes I like it neat, sometimes with a ice cube.
It is always personal.
Seems like something I'll need to try. I like a nice blend sometimes also. Tonight I will have a bit of 21 Glenfiddich since it is my weekend.
Belated, I didn't finish work until 4am so it was a quick pic and glass.
Glenmorangie Traditional 100 proof (57.2%vol) A single malt bottled straight from oak casks and not chill filtered, aged 10 years. The high alcohol than the usual standard Glenmorangie surprisingly helps this along with a lovely oak spicy soft finish, very balanced. Lovely tipple.

The Monster.
P.S.
Mvcrash, I believe the Monkey Shoulder would make an excellent mixer too.
Scotch. Nice and neat :D
Nothing too fancy tonight, just Chivas Regal 12 y.o., neat of course.
Knob Creek 9 year, 120 proof.
