    Default Masking the fragrance?

After using alum (actually, I used to also dial 911 and start the IV, but I'm better now!) I like to use a cold splash and then Dominica Bay Rum. I also like the Nivea Double-Action replenishing balm.

Maybe this is a dumb question (certainly an ignorant one!), but if you put the Nivea balm on after the Bay Rum, does the balm cancel or mask the fragrance and effects of the Bay Rum?

If you wait a couple of minutes after you use the Nivea to let it soak in well and they apply the Bay Rum it shouldn't mask it at all

I managed to make a pretty awful smelling mix the other day by shaving with a tobacco and bergamot soap (which smells great on its own) and then applying Trumpers sandalwood skin food (which also smells great) afterwards without rinsing my face properly. Tobacco, bergamot and sandalwood dont smell good together!

Something you could do is apply the Nivea balm to the areas you've shaved then apply the bay rum to the sides of your neck where you havent shaved. Thats what I do with the skin food: I apply the skin food to the areas I've shaved and then AS to the sides of my neck. Works great!

    Default Masking the Fragrance?

    Ladies and gentlemen:

I usually apply balm after the shave and follow it later, after the cleanup, with aftershave. The time delay guards against conflicting scents.

+1 on Obie's observation...I only apply aftershave after I have applied ASB.

seems i've started a thread asking the same question.. perhaps i should rinse, dry, apply bay rum, wait a minute.. , apply nivea, let it soak in, and then reapply bay rum..

or am i taking this a bit far?

    Hello, Victor:

It's your wet shaving world and you choose what works best for you. The way I do it is this: warm rinse, alum block (run under cold water), cold water rinse, dry, witch hazel (I like witch hazel), balm and aftershave. The sequence includes various intervals of cleaning up and stropping.

    Regards,
    Obie

    My dear Victor:

If that's the way your breeze blows, tie your hammock to different trees and enjoy it.

In the winter I follow a/s with a light balm and I do think it minimizes the scent. I find the scent of Dominica to be very fleeting anyway, so I don't worry about it too much. I also apply a/s behind my ears, on the back of my neck, etc., so any remaining scent in those areas is not impacted by the balm.
