Purple? Yah that can't be a good sign. :) If you have not done so already, you may want to seperate your colognes from your aftershaves, would hate to hear you made the same mistake twice.

I've done the same with tabac, quite a burn
I once bought Ammonium Alum, (sold for use as a deodorant), thought it would be similar to Potassium Alum. That felt a trifle sudden, when I used it on freshly shaved skin.
Cologne on a freshly scraped face??!!! Ohhhhhhh/my word!!!! [and ouch besides!]
I Stopped using the aftershave and now reach for the Tabac Colonge. It burns a bit but its a awesome scent.
