I use talc quite a bit during the summer months, but not on my face. I use it mainly on the back of my neck and on the "sensitive" area to cut down on irritation from the heat and humidity.
I use corn starch in the arm pits and groin in the warmer months.
I prefer to marinate in my own juices in the summer months... Swamp ass can be a natural pestiside...
I usually end with a bit of talc on my face. Leaves it nice and smooth, not sticky. Then of course on the sweaty parts that rub together and my shoes.
Curious what kind of talc you guys are using. I am on the clubman right now, but I've seen Trumpers, Penhaligons and some others that probably smell great.
Can't find talc in the stores around here. It's all change over to cornstarch. Use that with Vit E and something else added. Works the same. ? Could it be a cheap by product of corn fermentation??
I love the Clubman talc and I have tried some ancient Old Spice after shave talc. Feels good, but looks like talcum powder on my face.
Talc has gotten a bad rap. Mostly because it has fibers similar to asbestos, but there has never been any proven link to cancer. You can certainly be alergic and it might clog up your pores though. I have read that there are some food preperations that have some talc in them.
Just don't breathe it.

I use Clubman talc on my neck when its hot.
I use Roberts Borotalco on my entire neck, chest and shoulders. I apply it with a very soft goat hair brush. I like it. I once had talc applied to my face after a shave by an old world Italian barber. Felt great and all that, but being of Italian decent, my skin is a bit dark. The talc now made me look like a ghost, but it was great on the skin. So now I just go to places other than the face.
Actually, more related to Asbestos. I remember in the old days after a haircut the barber would apply talc with a horsehair brush to your neck which was trimmed by a straight and there would be this huge cloud all around you.
These days they think inhaling the stuff can cause cancer.
I guess I'm not long for this world eh?
Very rarely, if I am going some place special and my face is too shiny. Some aftershaves really give me the high gloss effect, probably depending on how much witch hazel it has. I do use talc in general in these sweltering summer months.
Having never used talc I am left with a couple questions. Is the order aftershave and then talc or do you skip the AS? Is there a scent to the talc or is it just a neutral composition?
My post shave routine is, Cold Water splash, final touch up with razor, after shave, lots of Noxzema, when soaked into the skin, I use bath powder to smooth my face for that final feeling of pampering my self.
Feels good and useing Wal-Mart's own brand, Great Value, it's fairly cost effective.
Thanks.
I may have to try some one day. I suppose that I can never know until I try it what others see in a certain post shave treatment- and it might just have the light scent that I do not yet know I am looking for.
Cornstarch Baby Powder with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E or go to the baking department of your grocery store and buy some cornstarch and use it.
I have some Clubman Talc but I don't use it very often. If I feel like I'm sweaty in that area or I'm going to wear a light colored collard shirt I'll put a dab on. I do miss getting dusted after a hair cut. It really seemed to "finish" it for me.
Just wanted to put the carcinogenic talc myth to bed with some science.
Cosmetic talc should not be listed as a - PubMed Mobile
I don't use talc but there are two types of talc, one being perfectly fine for use and the other contaminated form is a carcinogen WHMIS Classifications: Talc, Containing No Asbestos or Crystalline Silica .

I used Clubman talc today, here was my shave.
Prep cold water
Strop SRD old school 2" natural
Soap Van Der Hagen
Shaving bowl My Wife found this at Good Will for .49 cents. Works great.
Brush Old original badger
Razor Hess
After the Shave Alum Block
Post Shave, face Clubman talc
I use it on my face, I'm trying to decide if it goes good with old spice aftershave, scent wise.
I use Gold Bond and apply it with a nice horsehair brush that a barber gave me. For some reason this just seems to "finish" shave and I'm not sure why. I have been concerned about the whole cancer deal and not sure if Gold Bond is the same as Talc. Anyone know?
Any cosmetic grade talc contains no asbestiform fibers which Is what is in industrial grade talc and is classified as a human carcinogen. So no it does not cause cancer. The article I posted on this thread from the national institute of health details all of it. It's a good read.
I use TOBS talcum powder after a lot of shaves. Honestly, I don't worry about what's in it. If that's not the thing that gets me it will be something else. So I plan to thoroughly enjoy my shaves and use talcum powder!
Indeed, Gold Bond powders do use cornstarch instead of, as do most others produced in the US (Odor Eaters, for instance).
Coincidentally, just last week I researched talc to see if it is still used to prevent pests in packaged rice. The search revealed a number of things:
It's no longer used in rice in the United but is still common elsewhere
Talc deposits are often found coexisting with a form of fibrous asbestos
which is dangerous to inhale..
however, since 1976 in the US inspection standards were established
which have eliminated this danger
The International something-or-other Cancer Risk rating of talc alone
is Class 2b, which is the same rating given coffee and cellphones
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition finds no risk in talc
consumption Talc-coated rice as a risk factor for stomach cancer.
