I like my pre-shave oil just as much as the next guy, but I can not stand the mess it makes in my sink. Everyting sticks to the side of my sink and is a pain to get off. Anyone have any fies for this?

Admittedly, the shave oil I use on my face comes out of a bottle and has to be squeezed with a good amount of pressure to make the bottle exude drops of oil, a drop at a time.
So, out of interest, what pre-shave oil do you use and what is you method.

AOS sandle wood, I pour out about a cap full onto my hand and apply it to my face. I did not think it was my oil making everyhting stick to my sink until I skiped using it today, then bam 60% less of everything stuck on my sink and not nearly as hard to clean off.
Please forgive me for asking, but can you describe you entire shave prep? It may help... mixtures of things and such...
btw-I use a cheapie shave oil from walmart and it is not like splashing aftershave on to my face. Not at all. but that's my shave oil.
ps-Soap dilutes oil, in general. Are you shaving without a soap lather? No judging, I will dry shave on occasion..., but saying the soap washes things nice and clean.
prep: after a shower soak my brush, apply oil to face, use either AOS, or Bigalow, cream or some VDH soap, just whatever strikes me that day(been on the cream kick lately), and that is realy it. I more or less rub the oil in, as if I was suing a face wash or someting along that line.
Whelp. So tell her, "I won't scuz the sink if you don't bloody the toilet". Will that work?
Ah, but its my own bathroom (we have 2) and its my proagative.
Been using AoS as well. i only use a few drops, no where near a capfull. havent noticed any build up on the sink, however the last 2 days have noticed some on my blade. as i shave it is like the lather is getting sticky. came to pre-shave to find an answer on that when i saw this. might be related.
Could it be cold weather making the preshave oil thick?
The issue may be that you're using a capful…with most pre shave oils you literally only need a few drops to do your entire beard area. Sometimes less is more.
When I use a pre shave oil (I have homemade, AOS, and shave secret)
I use 3-4 drops rub vigorously to spread into/onto hands and proceed to work it into my face.
I then wash my hands and continue on, my pre-shave oil is one of the smallest messes of my wet shaving routine.
And to be honest I could probably stand to be a bit messier, it is wet shaving after all.
@siguy, I normaly use regular bathroom cleaner about once a week, and now it is just scrub down once I am done, vs. normaly being able to just wipe with my hand and water.
I can now see where I am using too much oil, the guy at AOS was obviously mistaken, with the amount he told me, and after shaving today I see I really use aout half a cap, but still I see where this is too much, when I shave again in 2 days I will give you guys the results of just a few drops.
:rofl2: I'd have to say so. Personally, after the shower, I rewet my face and scrub in 3 drops on either side of my face and massage in, wipe the rest off on my chest. Nothing noticeable really hits the sink. Really, I don't even need the oil anymore, but I've become really fond of the eucalytus(sp?).
I don't even know where to get enough shave secret to be able to manage cap fulls. My bottle is only 18.75ml
I have never seen larger. However, you could fill me in as to how large your bottle is and where you got it. Mine's running low.
My personal journey, I had a lot of variables to deal with mixed in with the usual rookie mistakes. Somebody, forgot who, even said olive oil is a viable alternative.
you might try sauvecito (sp) oil its not stupidly expensive, i like the smell better and it comes in a more reasonable sized bottle, personally i also notice slightly better results but ymmv
I suggest, a sponge - it can pull double duty, something to wipe your blade on while shaving.....then rinse, add some hand soap and wipe the sink out. I use shave oil too and it works like charm, can't stand a dirty sink!
Under your sink keep one of two things, Simple Green or Scrubbing Bubbles, a squirt from either will loosen the oils & waste, then rinse down the sink. I keep both under the sink. I have a shiny shave sink.
I tried the AoS sandalwood preshave oil last night with no problems. I just left my palm wet from washing my face and used about 5 drops and massaged it into my face. I had no mess besides having to rinse and wipe my blade several times. As far as the sink, it was easy to clean up.
@sbj4552,
I forgot to mention as an aside that I also use a large, moistened sponge to wipe of lather as it builds to a crescendo on the razor's flat. It sits looking happily at me from the corner of the sink on my dominant side. Like a faithful dog, really.
