Really I only posting because I am getting tired of seeing trouble building a lather....but I did see this strange pre-shave routine, this guy lathers his face then takes a hot towel and rubs all the lather in....then re-lathers and shaves....maybe the first lathering was preceded by a hot towel.......I'm wondering if anyone has tried this? It kind of looks like fun...plus I have about 5 years worth of soap accumulated now so this might be a way to use some more of it up......
There are some videos showing a double lather with a hot towel before and after the first lather.
I double lather but don't use hot towels. First lather cleans the hair and softens the beard. YMMV

I do that sometimes. An old barber taught me that routine and I like it.
I do it also. But I'm new to SR shaving so I don't know any better lol

I have seen hot towel placed over lather, I would presume the same effect as to soften the beard.
I would be more inclined to try that if I had a good chair to lay back in available in my shave den/area.
As far as rubbing it in, for a quick prep I will use Williams to wash my face with and just use a hot damp washrag to wipe it off, same theory and works well for me.

I have never shaved with a straight or DE any other way. I shower after shaving so it just made sense and is a nice relaxing way to ease into the day.
So in a similar note am I the only kook who tests his razor by fluffing out his chest hair and lopping off a few ? (my version if the hht) lol:roflmao

I occasionally do something like this.
I'll put on some shave secret, fill metal container with facecloth with boiled water, then build lather.
Sometimes, I'll apply the lather, rub it in, leave it on my face and then hot towel.
Other times, I just plain forget to do this step and go right for the hot towel.
I tell you, I might be able to get even better shaves if I were not using shave secret oil as I might be able to do a little better at stretching, but seeing as I'm able to pretty much get BBS anyway, I'm not willing to part with the clove sensation on my skin. Absolutely love shave secret oil. The smell, the sensation.

Oh, and for odd? I'm a unrepentant, habitual brush sniffer. There. Said it.
After I'm done shaving I lather up and put a hot towel on. With a really nice aromatic soap it really adds to the shave experience.
In the past I have done it as a pre shave routine.
So I decided to try this method.....It worked nicely and is cheaper than Proraso. As noted by many, as a post shave Proraso is good stuff if we have been a little ham fisted with our razors.
Here's how my day tends to start:
Fill scuttle with hot water, soak brush in scuttle.
Shower making sure to scrub face clean of any oils.
dump scuttle and refill. Lather up and leave on face to soften beard while stropping.
wipe lather and re-lather for shave
My beard on my chin is especially tough and I find this helps me get a comfortable shave quite well. would be nice to have a barber chair in the bathroom to lean back and hot towel over lather.
This is my routine, almost verbatim. The only difference (?) is that I use one of those plastic net, exfoliating scrubbers on my face and neck while I'm in the shower.Quote:

I use one of those net jobs also and it is the best......especially useful on the back as nothing has come close to really doing the job. You would not think they would amount to much....practically weightless....but they are the king of exfoliators....mine is a strip about 3 feet by 8 inches.Quote:

I believe, but would not bet my life on it, that the very same hot towel, lather hot towel over lather, and then re-lather routine is on Lynn's Youtube or DVD.
