I wonder what ingredients make FW a useful preshave? FW is not really good as an aftershave either, because it contains nothing that nurtures your skin, since it is meant to be a perfume or something used in Hootoo Rituals. I had a bottle once and didn't get another, because the alcohol and lack of oils and other nurturing ingredients dried my neckskin out. I did like the fragrance though.
What does it do as a preshave?

Nothing, really. I have a bottle and have tried it as a pre-shave several times recently because of this thread, and I can say that it does nothing to help the shave at all. And it's no surprise, since it's basically alcohol, water, and fragrance. I like it very much in its intended role - as a light cologne put on after the shave is done and the face treated with a proper aftershave balm or splash.
Washing the face with a good lime oil soap such as Musgo Real or Ach Brito (my favorite) is about the best pre-shave treatment I have found so far.

Same here. I use a facial soap to clean grease off my face before lathering up. If I shower before I shave I use shampoo while washing my hair. The alcohol in FW will degrease your face as well. That might be one good aspect of using it as a Pre-Shave-Lotion.

I have had a bottle of "Florida Water" on hand on my shaving shelf for a while. I like it as an after shave. Never tried it as a Pre-Shave.
I also have a bottle of "Orange Blossom Cologne" from the same manufacturer (Murray and Lanman). There is something about the smell of orange citris that simply refreshes the senses. Haven't tried this a pre-shave either, although I'm sure it's the same chemical make-up as Florida Water..... at least it is from THIS manufacturer.
Mahalo!
