Thread: Not sure if anyone else does this..

I normally shower before i shave (probably like most); however, in the shower i rub water against the grain of my stubble. typically i can feel a very significant change to the stiffness of my stubble after 10-15 seconds of doing this. right before i lather / apply soap i do the same thing in the from the sink.. doesn't take but 2-3 seconds with warm water to feel the stubble soften. I also start my lather in my scuttle (partly) and then face lather.

I do not shower before a have but I do splash cold water from the sink on my face before face lathering. Can't say that splashing cold water on my face softens my stubble any.

If you make/build your lather in a modern scuttle and then paint it on your face you are not face lathering but bowl/scuttle lathering. Oth if you are using an old fashion scuttle and loading your brush with soap, not lather, and building the lather on your face, then you are face lathering.

to be specific: i will load soap up on my brush.. I believe i have a modern scuttle. i have a small amount of water. i stir the brush into the water (couple drops) making a slight foam just enough to start impregnating the brush. then i take the brush to my face and build a more volume and slickness.

I load my brush on a puck in it's container till I have a pasty proto lather. I then go to my face and build the lather to where I want it by adding a little water as I go from dipping the brush tips in water.

Normally you load a brush with soap and go to a scuttle to build your lather and the lather in the scuttle is what you will use. It then is just a matter of painting it on your face to shave with. All the making of the final lather occurs in the scuttle not the face.

This be face lathering, no bowl or scuttle used to actually make the lather.

Understood: the technicality or distinguishing portion is where the lather is actually made. So I warm my soap up in my scuttle then face lather. I’m new so I’m sorry if I’m not 100% up on the Jargon.

No worries, nothing to sorry about. There is a lot of new jargon to learn when you start into this. It just helps to know the difference so everyone is on the same page when reading a post. Like everything else in this sport you do what works for you so I was not trying to change the way you lather just clarify how you lather.

I use a bowl and sometimes build a proto-lather that is thinner and wetter than I would use for shaving. Then, squeeze out the brush, scoop up some of the bowl pre-lather and build the lather on my face. This gives the benefits of face lathering, without me slinging lather all over the bathroom.

Great idea! Although I Always enjoy watching the shaving videos with huge gobs splatting about and the slight disappointment of lost white gold.. 😂

I think that some people will make too much of something that is not necessary. In saying that, if you think that it makes a big enough difference in your shave, by all means you just go for it!

I'm a simple man with simple ways. Depends on my mood and time how involved I want to be in shaving. Sometimes I'm all in for babying myself and sometimes I just don't have the time and just hopeing I don't cut myself.

Shaving is just not that complicated. You just got to enjoy the ride.

Oh I was just sharing.. cause I was curious if anyone else did something similar.. It’s fun to warm up that soap and get some scents flowing and have fun.. I was also curious if anyone else did interesting strange fun routines. I’ve watched technical lather tutorials.. so I can make a lather.. I agree I have a different routine for non pampered days where function supersedes fun
