So now I received my ceramic bowl of Tabac soap. As it is hard shaving soap and I don't know what I'm doing ;-D how would I use this with a scuttle? My Dirty Bird scuttle arrives tomorrow.

What I suggest is, make sure you put a few drops of water on top of the soap, enough to wet it all, then let it sit for a bit. After that, take your brush and swirl it on top of the soap for about a minute so it gets really loaded up well, then take it into the scuttle to build the lather. That works for me with all my hard soaps, regardless of whether I'm using a badger or a boar brush.
Gotcha. TY
Jdto speaks wisdom, I do this with my tabac, my TOBS and my MWF, works like a charm
No need to worry about lathering Tabac. It's so easy to work with it practically lathers itself lol. Try it, you'll see what I mean.
Heck use it tonight.
Note that the puck and bowl have matching notches
so it does not spin.
Once the puck glues itself to the bowl
consider getting in the habit of inverting the
bowl to pickup soap and also to shake out
the brush you can add water later as needed.
I have found that the puck will take on
water and swell unexpectedly. After a couple uses
it does not need to be left sitting with a puddle of water
on top.
It is an easy to lather shave soap that seems to get
better the more you use it.
You can half face and half palm lather.
Load the brush, use your palm to add drips of water and
build a nice thick lather alternating face, hand, face
adding dribbles of water as needed.
. o O! I can't wait 'till morning to shave!!
Just make sure to soak your brush first. Then shake out excess water out of brush and swirl on soap 20 circles one way then 20 circles the other way. Then put 5 drops of water in scuttle and swirl away for a minute then add 5 more drops of water and swirl some more and you should have a stiff pile of cool whip.
Thanks much.
I suggest that you cut a small sliver off and stick it to the bottom of your usual bowl or cup and make your lather there.
As you accumulate more soap you'll quickly reach a point where you'll say :where do I put them? . This way it's easy... They're dry and in there original boxes and you know what the heck they are.
Take a wet brush and start swirling it on the puck. You really can't go wrong. I have a puck and it is a very hard soap.
There are many ways to skin a cat. I just put some water on the puck while I shower, tip it out and load my brush in the Tabac bowl. I then lather on my face. Just wanted to say thanks for bringing up Tabac, reading this at work today made me really look forward to shaving with mine tonight. It was lovely as always...:beer1:
Tabac is the easiest soap to lather for me by a mile. It's my favorite!
It's simple.....soak brush while showering. Give brush a gentle squeeze and lightly shake out excess water. swirl on top for 30 - 60 seconds until brush is creamy and loaded (I do this with the puck and brush parallel to the floor). Next, start building lather in your scuttle or directly on your face! Enjoy the mysterious aroma and unparalleled performance of tabac.
Like the other gentlemen said, it's very easy to lather. To be honest, I just got mine recently, one time I use a scuttle and lather there and the other right off the soap. Both work. Depends on my mood I guess and what equipment I'm using.
My puck soap came in a wooden bowl (D.R. Harris)
I build the lather in a ceramic latte mug (acquired from the coffee mug shelf, Much to wife's chagrin).
Step 1. Pour hot water on top of soap puck.
Step 2. Submerge lather mug in sink of hot water. (this is the poor-man's scuttle; warms the mug and keeps the lather warm through the whole shave).
Step 3. Place brush in mug to soak.
Let sit 5 minutes or so....
Step 4 remove mug and brush from hot water
Step 5. Shake excess water from brush
CRITICAL STEP 6. Pour tiny amount of water off top of soap puck into lather mug.
Step 7. Load brush with soap (20 left 20 right swirls)
Step 8. Build lather in lather mug....the water from the soap REALLY helps this effort.
As time goes on, you'll KNOW just the right amount of water to retain.
I love turning that foam into a rich luxurious shaving lather.
Good luck.
Works great face lathering, very easy to load the brush and build the lather. Probably my favourite soap in that price range.

I face lather Tabac all the time just load up the brush and lather it right on your face. As has already been mentioned, it doesn't take much to lather this stuff it's really good soap.
Tabac is the most forgiving easiest lathering soap I own. In addition it has great cushion and slickness.
When in doubt, use more product on the wet brush to start (swirl for a minute or more) and then slowly add water. You will see good results.
The easiest soap to lather I've ever tried is Tabac.
+1 for face lathering Tabac. The ceramic bowl it comes in is affordable (hopefully you only buy it once), perfect to use for loading the brush and in my opinion requires no other bowl.
As easy to lather as Tabac is remember that a bit of practice
with any classic soap can get great results. The classic
soaps are still there because they do cover all the key
bits of a good soap: lather, shave and smell.
So any soap that gives you trouble, practice with it.
You can make ten experimental lathers, rinse each down the drain
and try again. Shaving... not so, shaving over and over -- hamburger face.
And yes +1 Tabac
P.S.: anyone that swipes a coffee mug from the wife's kitchen
should quick visit the local Used-Stuff shop and grab a couple
dollar mugs and return the good one pronto. ;)
