For the money, Aqua Velva Ice Blue after some alum block. Never fails to make me feel alive and barbershop clean. The scent does not hang around and interfere with any EDT or what not I may put on later when going out. Mind you I don't have too many aftershaves.

It is impossible for me to decide, because it varies. With time of year, weather conditions, even my own mood. For winter I prefer a soothing, moisturizing AS, other times I may prefer a dry clean splash. Which is a good thing, since there are so many to choose from :)
I have never settled on one per say but I am never without Aqua Velva Ice Blue, Ogallala or Pinaud of some flavor.
I haven't tried a ton, but Imperial Barber products Bergamot aftershave has been great. Soothing and just feels good in general on the skin. And it's really inexpensive - I think it's like $10 at royalshave.com
i do like splashs royall bay rum floid black geo f trumper limes skin food madame scodioli step right up and dust shaker are some of my best preforming and in the balms i like castle forbes lime and 1445 and pre de provence balm.

At this point and time the only thing I use are Floid products for what ever reason I got started using them and just can't bring myself to stop I think maybe I need help?????????????
As far as performance of the aftershave goes it really all depends on the day. And by that I mean what razor is used, what stage it may be at as far as needing honing, how heavy my hand is during the shave etc.
I really do like the T&H Balms in the Winter as far as soothing goes, and mainstays in my rotation will always be Floid Amber, Acca Kappa, and for all around soothing even though the scent fades quickly would be Spieck.
Depends on the weather for me. On hot days lately I like Myrosol Aqua de Limón. In the past I've raved about Madame Scodiloi's 'Step Right Up' as it's very soothing with the essential oils in it. I also love Tabac, Lavanda, T&H Trafalgar and Floïd. However, really, I like all after shaves, even the cheap ones like Blue Stratus...
As I don't use after shave only EDT or Eau de parfum, there are quite a few scents I rate very highly such as most of L'Occitane EDT and a few Penhaligon's also Creed, but ultimately it will come down to one factor for me and that's staying power and these are three scents I have in my rotation and they all go the distance, first up Guerlain Vetiver the classic scent for the winter and autumn then next up Tom Ford Black Orchid you will even pick this up on your skin 24 hours later, and lastly and in my opinion very individual I love it can't recall smelling anything quite like it Kiehl's musk original blend No1.
Ever since I've tried Weleda, I haven't found anything better. I've tried alum alone, witch hazel, Trumpets Skin Food and all combos, but without the Weleda something's missing.
I'm going to say D.R Harris splashes, nothing else I use feels quite like it. Another very effective one for a particularly ruff shave I like, is RazorRock AS wax, instant relief.
Regardless of which scented AS I may choose, the one product that I use every single
time, without fail, is Thayers Witch Hazel After Shave Lotion with Aloe Vera Formula.
Good stuff. Very soothing.
I have been using Taylor of Old Bond Streets Mr. Taylor and am very satisfied with it. I like it better than Pinuad Clubman since it does not have as much of a burn to it and I think it leaves my skin a little softer while still dry and clean feeling.
Alum does the most good on my face followed by a post shave cooling lotion like "American Crew" or "Dreadought" post shave balm.
Most AS preps do nothing for you. They only smell. Some of the balms are OK. Trumpers skin food and Thayers Witch hazel are both good for you.
For my skin, I just need something with a fair amount of alcohol.
I've never had much use for anything else.
