Alcohol will temporarily remove much of the skins natural oils, but it does not stop their production and they come back in short order. In practice, since shaving with a straight razor removes all or most of the skins surface oils, the use of alcohol or an alcohol based aftershave really has little effect on your skin anyway. The alcohol evaporates very quickly, and once it is gone, there is no lingering effect.
I know this is contrary to what all of the skin product people tell you, but remember, they are trying to sell you something. I challenge you to present a single scientific study that shows that a brief daily topical exposure to alcohol has any effect on your skin. Studies by people trying to sell something do not count as scientific.
