    Default Cpt. Smith's Bay Rum...

Just got in my bottle of Cpt. Smith's Spiced Bay Rum from CS....WOW! Thought I would drop off a mini review for you.

The Good: This stuff smells GREAT right out of the bottle. The ingredients listed are: Bay oil, key lime, all spice, 'island spices' (read cloves and cinnamon), 55% alcohol (derived from cane rum). When you're just smelling from the bottle, the Cpt. Smith's smells much more inviting than the Pinaud Bay Rum I've been using for the last month. The balance tends more toward the spicy side of things. The all spice, clove, and cinnamon are very prominent here. To keep from a near musk scent, the key lime tends to brighten up the mix without being obvious.

The Bad: I just shaved before receiving my package, so I can't comment on the effects on the skin, but I dashed a bit on to see how the scent was out of the bottle. Unfortunately, the scent is VERY mild on the skin. Having not dowsed myself in the stuff like I normally do with Pinaud, I would have to give the thumbs up to Pinaud for making a product that lasts longer than the premium Cpt. Smith's. In fact, as of the writing of this sentence, the scent is nearly completely gone...

The Curious: This bay rum specifically mentions that they do not use the regular bay oil, but the oil of the Laurus Nobilis. To tell the truth, folks have said that it's completely different scents, but I can't tell the difference.

Overall: 4 out of 5 razors...

UPDATE: I tried this out on a full shave and it works pretty well. I used a W&B near wedge that is in desperate need of a hone, so I sure got a bit of razor burn and pull from it. The Cpt. Smith's seems to have taken care of the problem. It doesn't burn as much or give you that tightening up of the skin that I'm used to with Pinaud, but this bay rum seems to have gotten the job done. The scent does linger a bit longer than I originally thought that it would, but it is very mild and unless you're specifically looking for a smell, you would never know it was there after the first few minutes.
