A little does go a LONG way, and I love the way it works, but not crazy about the two scents they offer. Rose is a bit too floral for my taste, and the limes isn't very "limey" if you know what I mean. Good product though. I bought a bottle of the lime, but who knows when I'll run out of my sample. ......Jeff
I had bought a bottle of the Coral Skin Food (Rose) probably 6 months ago and I still have plenty left. The large bottle will last you a year. I find its real soothing after shaving and its great as an all around moisturizer. I haven't tried the lime but personally don't find the rose scent to be all that bad. Its subtle not overpowering.
Also feel free to check my review listed at the very top of the latest news:

The fragrance is very short lived. Generally by the time I'm applying my cologne, the skin food scent is gone.Quote:

I agree the flowers don't last long, and that's good in my book. I love the affect it has on my skin though. Too bad they don't make a Spanish Leather skin food HEH Jeff
First off, buy it from the Gentleman's Shop
http://www.gentlemans-shop.com/
Far and away the best prices on most shaving creams, lotions, etc... 500ml bottle for $39.24; 200ml bottle for $23.70 (assuming a 1.74 to 1 conversion, USD to pound). Even with a $13 shipping fee, these prices beat any 'local' distributer. Beyond that, the product is fabulous. Very little required--a dime sized dollop is too much for one application; it is quickly absorbed, tightens/refreshes the skin, soothes, moisturizes, seems to prevent/eliminate razor burn, and the scent, although quickly vanishing, will cause your wife to jump your bones right there on the bathroom sink (YMMV).
Trumper's skin food and Truefitt and Hill's 'Classic' Balm are the only two 'post shave' products you really need (in my typically not so humble opinion ;) )

Skin Food wow really great stuff
I've been using the Coral Skin Food for 3-4 years and really like it. Makes that baby butt smooooooth feel really good. I even like the Clubman Pinaud Balm........lol. Lynn
I just used their Jamaican Lime Skin food. Also great.
I agree with this, but I personally like the coral skin food better.Quote:

For what it's worth, I have a tube of Neutrogena Razor Defense a/s balm sitting right next to my bottle of Lime skin food. I go to the Neutrogena when I need a little more gentleness. Seems a bit more soothing than the 'food and a helluva lot cheaper. Faint neutral scent too. The Neutrogena says it's good for the whole face, and I like that because my forehead and temples get dry and flaky in the winter. Then again I'll smear my entire face with the 'food too and it's fine.......Jeff
since I can't say I've experienced it I'd have to vote no. There's no spot for "I dunno" :D
I'm a few days late on this thread, it seems, but I'll comment anyway...
I've been using the skin food for a few months now. Usually the rose scent - which isn't unpleasant, in my opinion - is gone within a short time after the shave, as people have already said.
It's a cooling aftershave, and when I had really bad razor burn after my first straight shave, it helped clear it up pretty quick. Of course, it burned then, because the skin was /too/ raw even for something this gentle.
I give it two big thumbs up.

If you're on a budget, and/or want something you can get locally w/o shipping, I would recommend KISS MY FACE Oil Free moisturizer with NAPCA. I also like the Trumpers, but in my opinion, the Kiss My Face gets the same results ... without much scent, however. Until I used Trumpers, this did the trick, and even now, I don't see much difference. You can get a pretty large pump bottle that will last forever for about $7. It's more readily available on the west coast, and in larger metropolitan areas, but in smaller areas is usually available in smaller stores that sell organic foods, etc.
You are a few years late on this thread Tuxedo. ;)
I've been using it too for a good 3 and a bit years - ever since I started straight razor shaving and specifically got the Trumper's Rose soap. They both work very well together.
It's my benchmark combination when shave-testing something. Wouldn't change it. Period. Lynn's recommendation above just reinforces the view.
My advice is to get the 500ml bottle - that goes for ages!
I used it a couple of years ago, great product.
One thing though, I had a 500ml bottle of Coral, and by the time I'd used about 2/3 of it, the rest had totally lost the pink colour and turned white. It still smelled and worked the same.
This was maybe a period of 9 months, kept on a shelf in the bathroom. I suspect it was the sunlight that killed it.
Gentlemen,
I am a devoted fan of Trumper's Coral Skin Food. Have been for a long time. It is fragrant, soothing, and the perfect finish to the shave.
I use it when the shave is completed, and wait until after cleaning up before adding aftershave or cologne. The aftershaves and colognes I use after the Coral are either Spanish Leather (Truefitt & Hill's or Trumper's), Woods of Windsor, or sometimes even English Leather. When using other aftershaves, I usually go with good old Nivea shave balm.
Trumper's Coral Skin Food? Oh, yes, gentlemen — it's like your lady's sweet breath on the cheek.
Regards,
Obie
I love my coral skin food.
I sometimes use it as a pre shave. Especially when I use GFT rose soap or cream.
If you are really on a budget get 'Corn Huskers Lotion'. It's basically the same (very close) only some don't like the scent and it's a bit thicker in consistency. I don't mind it at all. But it works great too. I got mine at CVS.
I like Corn Huskers Lotion. I keep a bottle in my desk at work...
skin food is all i use, i got 4 months out of a 100ml bottle, i use it every day and also on top of my bald head! i get it at www.qedusa.com for 22.95
I vote yes. I don't think there are any comparable products on the market. Great stuff.

It's great stuff, absolutely worth the money.
Funny how these old threads get resurrected...
FYI, Skin food is now available in Sandalwood although I'm not sure whether you can find it yet outside the UK. Certainly an improvement on Coral. Not sure I prefer it to limes.
I really like the Lime skin food.
I use the Sandalwood stuff and I love it! I use it instead of aftershave as the glycerin really seems to sooth my skin after the shave.
The bottles last ages as well. The medium sized one lasted me about 9 months of daily shaving.
I would go as far as to say its a must have for any shaver, I really cant recommend it enough.
I have the lime skin food. Sure, it's expensive, but a little goes a LOOONG way. I keep mine for those occasions when I've had a slightly rough shave and my skin's beginning to feel a little bit of burn - a little bit of GFT and the burn goes away and doesn't come back.
I use Limes soap, skin food & cologne. The skin food is the best pre & post shave product ever IMHO. Used before lather, it improves the lather & shave. Used after, it soothes & improves even a BBS. Does help with nicks too.
Maybe.
At the wintertime heavier balms (444 or nivea moisturizing creme or L'oreal moisturizing balm) works better for me. They protect a little better but skin food seals skin nicely. In summertime I prefer the skinfood.
