I have recently come to enjoy Trumpers Coral Skin Food, but the scent doesn't last. Does anyone know of a rose-scented men's cologne that could be used along with the Coral skin food? Thanks in advance.

i don't know of one, but please let me know if you find one. i'm obsessed with rose.
i rock rose water a lot, and i mean a lot. i go insane with the stuff. it's good for the skin as well. heritage products has a rose water and a rose water with glycerin for like $7 each at whole foods. lasts me a few months, and i literally go crazy with the stuff every day.
fwiw, the bottle for the non-glycerin version says it's edible too. haven't tried...
If I want rose then I usually go with Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet. I know the head notes are lavender and bergamot, but there is a strong Turkish Rose Otto heart note that comes through.
I've also tried the Czech & Speake rose based scents, but unfortunately they didn't last on my skin, although it might well be different for you.
I'd trawl around for some samples of scents if I were you.
I receently order samplers from truefitt and hill which had a rose cologne, and also from czech and speake which had rose and dark rose colognes.
not tried the trumpers coral skin food to much so cant really compare smell but they might be good places to start
Hello, sffone:
The Pink Aftershave by D.R. Harris has a light rose scent. I don't know how lasting the scent is, although I would assume not long, and it is only an aftershave rather than a cologne.
Regards,
Obie
hehe, I too love the scent of rose, so I would love to know the answer to this as well.
The directions I found for the Heritage Rose water (w/o Glycerin) says "Use as a perfume or body splash, add to your hair rinse or bath water, or try as a gourmet flavoring. You can also combine with therapeutic oils to make your own unique complexion formula"
So it sounds like you can consume it :)
I had a bottle of a few years ago and used to flavor my drinks with it...yup, I love rose a lot ;)
*EDIT*
Here's a few I just found

Thanks, gents, for your suggestions. I looked into the Czech and Speake scents and their "Dark Rose" seemes to be just what I'm after, but the stuff is expensive -- $185 a bottle, so I just ordered a sample. I'm also trying to find Truefitt and Hill samples. I'm just surprised at the cost of some of these men's colognes. I remember back when $25 for a bottle of smell-good was considered extravagant -- of course, that was many years.
C&S 88 has a nice rose note that is mingled with a touch of incense. It is very nice and stays in my rotation. Domenico Caraceni is another excellent scent that has some predominant rose in it. If you are looking for something a bit cheaper, then check out Saint Charles Shave. Sue has a Savory Rose Edt and also a Damascena Rose Edt. I have not tried either but Sue's stuff is very good. I have the Damascena Rose soap and AS and they are excellent in scent and performance.
Here's the C&S Dark Rose from a reputable vendor for $132 +Shipping
Cambridge Chemists - Czech & Speake Dark Rose Cologne Spray
I know i am a newbie at wet shaving, never really bothered about cologne she used to just buy it for me.
Order a load of samples and also went shopping in glasgow for a new one for my self which suprisingly had a lot of good shops for it( crabtree& evelyn, jo malone. l'occataine and a few others) lovely smells but the price of some actually made me look twice.
but i did pick up some more soaps and once i adjust myself to the price will pick up some colgnes smell so good.
ps. the uk site for C&S sells it for £75 which would about $125 plus shipping so might be worth a e-mail but there complete sampler for $10 including shipping is defenitly worth it.
there is a thread about this sampler in the colgones section thats how i found out about it
Thats actually terrible as that is twice the actually cost of shipping.
I apologise for the hijacking, because I'm a sandalwood lover :pQuote:

Hey pedro I also am in the wonderful Glasgae, where are the jo malone. l'occataine stores? Also know of any good shaving supply type shops.
Hijack over and once again apologies....

AFTERSHAVE ROSE OF BULGARIA FOR MEN with rose water 3oz - eBay (item 220567754450 end time Mar-14-10 04:49:34 PDT)
Another vote for contacting Cambridge Chemists and getting the 88. It's fantastic stuff. The Dark Rose is much more suited for the fairer sex, IMHO. 88... well.. it should be registered :nj
my guess is that the dark rose will be too feminine for you. the 88 is much better, it's extremely potent though, so that expensive bottle will turn out pretty cheap when you're done with it if you ever get to that, again sample that.
penhaligon's hammam bouquet has also very nice rose, but it's very oppulent scent, so you definitely want to sample it first.
but from the fancy english houses my favorite would be floris 89 which has quite prominent rose.
the rose of bulgaria seems like a no brainer for $10, i've not tried it and the scent is likely not as exquisite blend as a c&s product, but it doesn't have the luxury markup either, and since it comes from bulgaria I'm pretty sure the ingredients are the real stuff. It's likely to be closest to the coral skin rose, which definitely has the note of the bulgarian rose (I presume from rose water), but it also has a bunch of other sweeter and artificial stuff.
the sue's rosa damascena edt was disappointing for me, it's just not a well made blend in my opinion, it's just chaotic. the soap though is the rose scent that i like best.
I want to thank all you folks for your suggestions. Believe it or not, I've followed up on each and every one. I've ordered samples of several of the more expensive colognes, others I've just gone ahead and ordered. So far, my favorite is the Bulgarian Rose from St. Charles Shave, but I'm hoping to find something that lasts a bit longer. Now I've got so much rose-scented stuff that my bathroom smells like a florist shop! Or, as my uncouth son says, "Like a house of ill-repute!" LOL! I'm really enjoying the quest, so I'd just like to say again, THANKS GUYS! Once again, forum members have come through!
A couple of people mentioned Crabtree and Evelyn products but did not say anything about their Rose line, which is too feminine for me, or for a better mix, the Nantucket Brair Line which I have come to like very much. I suppose I had to try it growing up near Nantucket Rhode Island and having the last name of Crabtree. Yet more important to me is that it smells like the best rose you've ever sniffed and then just had to sniff again. A heady, rose scent that is mixed with that wonderful clean cool ocean breeze smell you get in the early mornings near the Atlantic coast. There are some spicy overtones but it is not very much.
I must say these views are just what I'm smelling with my 60 year old male nose. I'd find a C and E shop and give it a sniff with yours.
Btw I bought a number of items in that line including the eau de toilette. I use that as a cologne....sparingly. It doen't take much.
I've sampled the Hammamm Bouqet, C&S 88, C&S Dark Rose, C&S Rose and SCS Bulgarian Rose, and the SCS was my favorite too. It lasted pretty long for me. But I think it's only a limited edition. I haven't tried the SCS Savory Rose which isn't seasonal, but I suspect it's good too.
Thanks, guys, for your suggestions!
I liked the initial scent of the SCS Bulgarian Rose, but once it faded a little, it left a very "powdery" smell, and was told by several women it didn't smell "right" on me.
I got the sampler, and love the shave soap and AS milk though! Guess I'll have to donate the EDT at some point...maybe will send it over for the monthly giveaway unless someone else expresses an interest in trying it.
I'm completely astonished that Murray and Lanman's Rose Cologne has not been mentioned once. Great quality, very affordable price, constant compliments from the ladies. If you dig rose cologne this one is a must try.
I find Harris Pink AS nearly identical to Coral Skin Food.
Don't know how much 'rose' it has in it (although I know for a fact, it has some, just isn't its main component), but for what it's worth, I use Acqua di Parma Colonia as my cologne of choice with the Coral Skin Food as a pre/post shave.
The scent combination works really well; only draw back is that the Colonia scent isn't 'just' rose.

The Perfumed Court has Domenico Caraceni decants in multiple sizes. They ship Internationally by air parcel post pretty inexpensively. They are based close to me, and I've used them to buy many sample decants. Always great service. All their decants come in little labeled glass vials, I generally buy 5 or 6 different decants to try, for a little as $2 or $3 a vial.
I ordered the Caraceni yesterday. Little did I know though that they do others, but it was too late - I had already put my order in. I wanted to try SMN Melograno to see how it compares with the Caraceni.
I've read some reviews on the Caraceni - is it really similar to C&S No. 88? What else does it compare with? Of course, I could just wait for the sample to arrive and that will answer all my questions... :)
Hmm.... it's actually very much like C&S No. 88 but a lot less intense and more discreet. It does last though. The fact that it's like No. 88 somewhat, does kind of put me off buying a full bottle.
To be entirely honest, I've not had the chance to try it on for some time due to the weather. I think it's more of a winter smell if you ask me.
I find coral Skin food much more synthetic than DR Harris Pink  :)
About the rose scent:
I use Rose d'Homme de Parfums de Rosine, it's a complex floral scent, with a woody-amber scented base. I like it much more than Dark Rose of Czech&Speake.
A more fresh scent, from the same house is "une rose au bord de la mer" a unisex scent very fresh and easier to wear in the summer.
Thanks for the mini-review. I'm a fan of C&S No. 88, but like you, I very much think of it as a "winter" rose scent. I think of Acqua Di Parma as a "summer" rose scent. I'd like to find a casual year-round rose scent that is a little more understated than either of these, but that still lasts as long as they do. I had hopes for the Caraceni.
Domenico Carasini 1913 doesn't project, and doesn't last (it's like the joke about the senior couple at the early-bird dinner, who complained that the food didn't taste good and the portions were small).
Czech & Speake #88 isn't any better.
You want rose? Really?? Like Highlander, there can only be one: Le Labo Rose 31
Ask the man who owns one... and I highly recommend it.

I've been using Rose Petal from the Shave Den Store. Similar to Trumpers (at least to me), and $1.50 for a sample spray. they have 3 or 4 rose types, i've only tried the one. The downside is that it can take from 1 day to 2 weeks to ship your order, as Joanna has to make everything by hand.
p.s. SWMBO loves the rose scent on me :)
I have XPEC cologne. It is strongly rose scented indeed.
Best rose I've come across is Le Labo's offering: Rose 31. It's scent is delicate, spicy or powder but by no means over-powering or 'heavy' as you might say with No 88 and Caraceni. It's very warm and sweet with hints of vetiver and incense.
Castille and C&S 88 does it for me.
