Has anyone noticed the closer the shave the greater the sting (with after shave).

I have noticed, the better (sharper razor) the shave, less sting there is...

I just noticed this a few minutes ago. I followed my normal routine, had a really good shave, not baby butt smooth but good enought to satisfy me. My face looked fine after the shave, no irritation or redness...Then I put on my Nivea cooling aftershave balm. It stung almost immediately and now my neck is irritated and red. I know It will be OK in a couple hours but I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I have thought about going without the aftershave but I know I would regret that later. Does anyone else have this issue? Should I wait longer before applying the A/S?

For all I know it could be something with my shaving technique since this only happens on my neck.

Just in case anyone was wondering this happens no matter what aftershave I use.

Try putting something between the shave and the a/s. Try Natureade Aloe 80, an aloe vera gel that will put out the fire before you throw "gas" on it. It soothes and heals, and can be used for other things like burns, cuts and scraps or just an overall moisturizer.

I find the duller the razor the more the sting!

I get "sting" even after using a Feather, so for me, the sharpness isn't an issue. It's more about about the aftershave. And maybe I just have sensitive skin. Now, Pinaud's Bay Rum...that's more of a friggin' "face in an open blast furnace" feeling, even after a Feather. I like it.

I always interpreted the sting as either not sharp enough, causing me to use too much pressure or too fine an edge. I think both would cause the sting by shaving off the top layer of skin.

I don't get intimidated by the sting, especially since the redness disappears in 5-10min and I use a 55% alcohol aftershave and do 3 passes, with one against the grain. The redness disappears within minutes, and as for the pain, I have 3 words of advice: Be a man!
