Gorgeous depth to that horn Andrew. Another beautiful WB returned to active duty. Val surely does nice work. Glad the slices worked out and I look forward to using the ones you gave me on that Gilchrist before too long.
:beer1:
Yes, this one sat in my razor chest for over two years...the scales were badly bug eaten, cracked at both pin areas, and had a few chunks out of them at various places. Valery made use of all the original hardware he could, got rid of the horrible looking what I can only imagine was someone taking a very hard wire type brush to the blade face, and spent considerable time restoring to as close to original as possible.
Mike cut the horn down that 10Pups had pointed me in the direction of, and I'm very impressed with this one - Val did his usual stunning job on it and I'm looking forward to my first shave with it tomorrow.
Attachment 240991Pretty poor quality pic of my first and only Wade & Butcher that is getting sent to Glen this Friday for a factory "restore". Ill post after pics when I get it back. Cant believe I just found this club section on here :D
This one should be here any day now...thought I was going to walk away with this one unchallenged from a European seller, listed in French I believe, so figured it went under the radar...there was my bid, one other, and some rascal tried to snipe it at the last second, but alas, I was quicker on the draw.....:D
The scales are bone(so said the listing), figured someone either in the last couple of years, or a 100 years ago, did some scrimshaw type writing on the scales. Will have to decide on it when I see it.
The main thing that really caught my eye with this blade is it's unique shape, the fact that it's a healthy 7/8 beautifully hollow ground, and for me, of course that it's a W&B (listing said around 1860) that I walked away with at a really great price, was thinking I was going to get blown out of the water on this one.
Pins and collars are made in nickel silver, the spacer is made of lead.
Guess I'll call this one the Bovine Scaled ScrimShawed Wade & Butcher, 7/8
