Gentlepeople,
Here around the Sheffield ponds we have many old makers. There are the good Marsh boys and friends, Steer and company. So please take a minute to show off your Ponds Works razors. Even if they are a bit rusty from all that water.

first up a Marshes and Shepherd in pink ivory scales. I like to thank Garythepenman for the scales... he has made some outstanding scales and his restorations are great... you boys down under should be looking him up by now!
Can I just add thats a lovely looking razor and scales are awesome ... nice work .
Is this thread intended to highlight Sheffield blades or just certain Sheffield blades?
Well preferably "Ponds work" razors, or razors from makers that at one time or another have made "Ponds works" razors. folks like Marsh Brothers, Marshes & Shepherd, Steer and Company, and I'm sure there were many others. Think of the lesser known Sheffield's, not the biggies like WB, Mappin, Wostenholm, etc...
She's a beauty!! :tu
nobody else dwells in the marshes or the ponds?
as i promissed jim, here's my marshes&shepherd. the scales look like bakelite or horn, i'm not really sure. i was surprised to see mirror finish survive over 150 years, but perhaps somebody polished it earlier. the inprints are very deep, and i love the broken 'e' in the 'universally approved' stamp.
sweet!!!!!
it might be thatthe pondsworkds was too limiting... so lets add the don, trinity and washington works to the mix... i know you guys have these razors... just ship the wb stuff they are boring!
I think this is a Marshes and Shepherd, there is no name remaining on the tang. But the shape and style seem to point that way.
The biggest Razor, I ever seen - a Marshes & Shepherd

On the last pic you can see it, with a 8/8 Friodur
You appear to have mounted an ax head in your razor scales.
Good lord that thing is a monster.
Yeah but its a beautiful monster
Do any of you think this posably a Marshes & Shepherd ? Many of the design features I see from the above pics point to this conclusion, but this is the only mark on the razor...
I just barely claimed this one on Ebay and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival...
No manufacturers name, marked as made in Sheffield, The Hamburg Ring....

Just as a follow up, I got the Marshes & Shepperd razor from ebay a few weeks ago, and it's already quite possibly my favorite shaver. It was is pretty good shape when it arrived, and I wasn't equipped to do any polishing or super-fine sanding, so I just honed it up and threw it in the rotation. Now, I'm thinking that I won't be able to take it out of the rotation long enough to finish touching it up when I get my hands on some Maas.
come on gentlemen step right up, step right up. A troubling situation has arrived in the razor club and that is the use of thumbnail pictures. I know that some of you old timers still remember when the razor clubs were a thing of beauty! with large glossy pictures of razors and we viewed until our hearts content. but those days are through it would seem. I beseech all the members of the razor clubs to take the poll in the general section and vote to restore large pictures to our beloved razor clubs. It is up to us gent and together we can restore these clubs to there former glory!!!!!!

Hi all,
I am new to the forum but this looks to be the best place to ask some questions...you all look like you know your stuff...i have obtained a Marsh straight razor and was looking to find out more about it...when it was made, was it a mass production razor and is it vaulable?
Any feedback would help this newbie...
Thanks
Trekky

It doesn't have England on the back of the tang, so any idea the vintage?
more info about the razor on the link in the other forum...date details there...
Here is a razor I restored a while back and sold. I attempted to keep the original work on the spine and even gave the old bone scales to the buyer. This one was listed into the Workshop forum when I finished it.
Trey... that is a great looking blade!.... hell i would add that to the database... rules be dammed!
The right place for this picture.

Finally happy with the edge on the Marshes and Shephard 8/8 I have had for YEARS it seems. It is one of the first 10 razors I bought.
Just thought I'd share :D
Here's a Marsh and Sheppard spike point for the club. Great shaver.

I got this from ebay the other day. The inscription on the blade reads 'Neatness and Utility Combined'. The scales look to be horn. There is little bit of hone wear, but it is really even and doesn't bother me in the slightest. Its missing one washer on the pivot pin. Trying to decide if I should screw with it and restore it or just leave it alone.

Hi, I just joined this group as I am trying to learn all I can about these razors - my ggg grandparents and beyond owned this business. Anyone who would like to learn more about this company might like to track down a copy of "Three Centuries of Sheffield Steel, The Story of a Family Business" by Sidney pollard. Thanks for the interesting photos everyone! :)
