F.W.Soderen Showed this to a few senior members here and they all said the frame and scales look to be ivory.Came with the box and extra blades.This thing is a superb shaver,only problem is getting the water out of where the blade sits,after the shave.Its the lightest razor i have this size,just a joy to use.Incredible craftsmanship and was probably made before or around 1900 and works and looks great.On the handle is is marked Patent 1884.Unusual having a frame that is not metal.

Man, you are a brave to shave with this fragile rarity. A bit of paraffin on the blade groove must keep it waterproof.

A better pic of my fragile piece.Glad I shaved with it without any issues because it feels so different without a heavier metal frame.

Do you have to remove the blade after each shave?

I remove the blade and run tissue paper through the slot that holds the blade then oil it up...so its a pain to use a razor like this in general,but it shaves great.

Just recieved, haven't cleaned yet.

Mellgren was sole agent for SSA in America. This is a big bladed SSA razor. Enjoy

She's at home. Dirty, scratched, some age scars, but with a beautiful smile. Have no honing evidence on its bellied hollow 6/8 blade. Plain boring black scales, some rust on pivot.
I tend to keep everything original, but this one seems to need a deeper cleaning procedure on pivot and had been cleaned with steel wool or something that scratched the blade.
The original scales also doesn't follow the smile of the spine evenly when closed, and this is somewhat annoying.
I don't know what to do... disassemble, work on it and reassemble in the black scales, or replace the scales with better-fitted custom blond horn scales?

Gents, this thing shaves nice! You know, I collect and enjoy shaving with Heljestrands, but this blade is hors-concours after my honing procedure (100 laps on coticule slurry over "slurry side" translucent arkansas + clean translucent arkansas "always clean side" until tree-topping/thumb sticking mad sharp). No need to strop 1st. shave.
Besides my lust for swedes, my smoothest shaving razor is a Caudano-Torino in Bohler steel, and the Red Devil shaves tête-a-tête with it in smoothness. Bestial! Loved it!
