I assume that you're talking about true, 100% customs, right Doc? As in blade and everything......
You all realize when you are talking strictly custom razors though we all assume that to mean a expertly made razor to our own specs there is nothing in the term custom to denote quality of any kind. Anyone can make a custom razor, however it might not be something anyone of us would ever want to use or buy. Also ready made razors by the usual suspects are strictly speaking not custom since they are not made to our specs. So what is the sense of this post? I really don't know, just thinking out loud here when we refer to custom razors what we rally mean is a razor made to order by a skilled maker and even though what most of us consider to be custom razors like a typical Zowada or Livi is really not a custom razor just a very high end ready made razor. Many more razors are strictly limited production razors like the TI Silverwing LEs. These type razors may be high end or not. Also there is the idea of if you order a Custom razor and the maker uses a blank ready made and does some fabrication and sends it out for hardening or grinding and does the scale work and final work is that custom? How complete does the maker have to have had a part in its creation to still be custom. For example Livi buys the ingots and does everything else. Zowada as I understand it fabricates and pours the metal himself.
So what do you guys think? What is a custom razor?
I would say anything with a moderate amount of alteration would count, If you made the scales, it's got custom scales... anything done by traveller is pretty much custom,
as is anything done by Robert Williams. Livi's and Zowada's are made by artisans not factory workers, so I'd call them custom.
This is a picture of a Wade & Butcher with custom scales... (Hey, It's custom)

Actually when I created this I was thinking of small one man shops that are producing one of a kind order specific razors. To me a wade and butcher is going to still fall in the butcher shop cleaned up and restored is not really my definision of custom it falls under modified. It is a mass prodused razor that has been modified for either artistic or to restore serviceability. When I think custom I think, razors by Papa bull, Mr Chandler, Livi, etc. but again thats just my opinion.
I thought thats probably what you meant Doc, sorry to jump the gun and not wait for an answer directly from you. :w
no problem all in fun here

The quality of the work we see here never ceases to amaze me!!!!!
come on gentlemen step right up, step right up. A troubling situation has arrived in the razor club and that is the use of thumbnail pictures. I know that some of you old timers still remember when the razor clubs were a thing of beauty! with large glossy pictures of razors and we viewed until our hearts content. but those days are through it would seem. I beseech all the members of the razor clubs to take the poll in the general section and vote to restore large pictures to our beloved razor clubs. It is up to us gent and together we can restore these clubs to there former glory!!!!!!

Sorry about the quality, I'm not much of a photographer. The pics really don't do this razor justice. The cocobolo scales are really beautiful.
Let's keep the pics of customs going. I think Don might have some... Don??
Cheers,
Casey

Joe Chandler 6/8 Damascus Frenchpoint in Snakewood Scales. His workmanship is second to none IMHO.http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b3...amascus002.jpg
My first full on custom form the workshop of Joe Chhandler. An 11/16 french point, half hollow blade in horn scales. This razor is exactly my preference in a razor. Simple yet elegent. And it handles like a dream. It is tuned in to my preferences in keenness and is a smooth shave. :D
I am loving it!!

May I humbly present my ticket for admission to the The Customs Department, gentlemen? A rather nice Buddel butcher's notch half hollow ground in Suminagashi steel, scaled in polished palisander(?) burl from Gabor at Fine Razors Fine Razors The pictures really do not do justice to the beautiful layering within the steel or the depth of the grain in the wood. It feels organic in my paw & almost an extension of my finger tip while shaving. Simply awesome. Gabor is both an artisan & a gentleman. I will post a review of its shaving when we are better acquainted.
Knock, knock! Room for a Lady Gents?

Presenting my first custom, a L R Harner PCR.;) Razor by L R "Butch" Harner, purchased from L R Harner.
I'm still in awe of this fabulous blade. This little number is 6/8 x 2.25 and gives a smooth shave. I will write more when I've used it more.:D:y
Always room for the ladies! Does this mean we have to start washing the glasses at the bar?
No need Doc. Just change the sawdust on the floor occasionally and it's all good!;):D
