    Default Wade Wingfield and Rowbotham

    Hi Guys,
This is my first post so I apologize in advance.
I have recently purchased a straight razor with the markings "Wade Wingfield and Rowbotham Sheffield" on the "tang".
I have researched it a bit and if I'm not mistaken, the company dropped the Rowbotham in 1852.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
What is confusing, is on the blade, it is acid etched with "Australian Red Cross" - the Red Cross was established in Australia in 1914.
If anyone reading this could shed some light, I'd be much appreciative.
    Kind regards,
    Ray.

    Welcome to the forum.

    2 ideas

The blade was made and etched in 1914

Old blade was etched in 1914.

Some of the historians should have an answer.

If you can post a picture or few of the razor.
I am pretty sure I have one of theirs, but if memory serves it's from 1800s. I thought mine was a pretty cool razor.

I have recently been passed down my great grandfathers razor, my grandmother, Norma Mackay, who was well versed in our family history told me before she passed, this razor was issued to her father James Farnell in WW1, as far as I know he was insisted to represent Australia from Ireland for an Australian citizenship.
