Jdto i want one of those bad its beautiful, did something happen to the heel?
Does anyone know if the TI's from Fendrihan.com come shave ready? I found a TI I like but I'm still not sure I want to spend that kind of money for a TI. If it comes shave ready that could help make up my mind.
Thanks!
Okay, they emailed me back and said they are not sent shave ready.
Mine did not come what I call shave ready.
Paul.

It's a beautiful razor. Of course I had to use it this morning. Wonderful shave. Well made jimps and nicely curved tail make for a very positive grip. The feedback on an extra hollow (this is my second extra hollow) is something I really like.
Beauty mate!! That's a keeper for sure!!

I just sent my C135 TI Le Dandy for honing after just 10 shaves.
I have 2 Vintage Le Dandy too and they feel just as good as they were when i honed them about a year ago.
My honemaster says that I´m not confortable with the (C135) steel yet...
Here is a bunch of my Frenchies.
A 5/8 Le Grelot " Marque De Qualite Medaille D'or Paris 1931" in walnut scales.

A 5/8 "Hybrid" Thiers Issard. The blade has two different etchings: " Best Sheffield Silver Steel" on one side and " Our Unrivalled Hollow Ground" on the other. There is no makers mark on the tang.

I have finally decided to venture out of the world of Solingen made razors and try out Thiers Issard. I have two razors on both ends of the price spectrum on the way, one is the a vendor honed TI Special Coiffeur and the other is TI Oak Wing with factory edge. I am very curious to see how the factory edge will perform. These will also be my first half to quarter hollow razors.
So, I shaved with my new 5/8 Special Coiffeur, and it ploughed through my beard like a dream! I definitely felt the difference in comparison to my full hollows. The edge is stiffer and it cuts my tough beard without flexing whatsoever. The blade is heavier than any of my 5/8s which I like very much, and it has great balance. The leather sheath is beautiful and very practical. There were no cosmetics issues of any kind. What a great buy, especially given the price.
The Oak Wing sadly was a big disappointment, I never shaved with it and returned it to the seller. Upon my inspection of the blade, the tip near the spine where the notch is was crooked, slanting down at about a 30 degree angle instead of being perfectly straight as it appears in photos. This probably doesn't affect the edge and is purely cosmetic, but nonetheless, for that kind of money it should have been perfect. Touching the blade on the ball of my thumb it was also evident that the factory edge wasn't shave ready, as some spots of the edge didn't seem keen at all ( no grab) .This I gather is usually hit and miss with most razors. The seller whom I have been dealing with for many years kindly refunded me that razor. Excellent customer service as always.
A grelot like 1/4 grind is still on my rad hit list.
Does this count as a Frenchy....Jacques Lecoultre..ever see one with the top two finger reliefs ??
Attachment 116365
Switzerland, close enough! A fine example for sure! you really dont see to many with two finger relief. Is the locking screw just a knurled, or does it have a slot for a screwdriver? just asking ive seen both types!
Attachment 116370 Attachment 116371
Nice so then an early one for sure! The Lecoultre where very famous watchmakers and that Knurled screw sure reminds me of a watch stem winder i think they call it a crown!
Oh no! it's the one that got away. There was an Lecoultre at a local antique store that I stalked for most of a year. The starting price was $100 my initial attempt at a haggle was ineffective and the guy said $100 firm. No dice, says I. I'll let it sit for a few months and then make another run at it. Several months later I made him an offer of $60 he wouldn't go lower than $70. In retrospect I probably should have just bought the damn razor at that point and been happy to get it for $70 but alas I wasn't that smart and decided to give it more time. When I went back a month or so later, the razor was gone. Shucks, it was a really cool frameback too.
Hi all,
can i add to the club?
