The Stub-Tailed Shavers

Here is another stub tail to add to my collection of old straights. It doesn't say anything else on it but Warranted. It seems I found some history of these old gems but I can't seem to find it now. My guess would date it to the early 1800's. It's in pretty good condition considering its age. I could not locate my neatsfoot oil so I used some Renaissance Wax on the scales for now & it looks pretty good.

Just Checking to see if the pics went through. The top is an old Wostenholm. If anybody wants to guess the date it would be appreciated. My guess is 1790- to 1820. middle photo is an old french razor a Gillette. 1790's- 1810. Never could find to much out about that one. last is a nice old John Barber.

That is an awesome looking stubby Steve. You are probably right on with the date but it is hard to date them with just the shape of the tang and "warranted". Those are really nice looking scales. Probably all original I'd guess. They make great shavers as you well know.

Austin, I just use my better judgement & give an estimated guess. I may not be right but it's only a guess.

Indeed, exactly my thought,
also, if I'm not mistaken, the "son" came with the "Wostenholm" mark after 1837, and (not sure), it was Wostenholme before 1815, the e fell of after 1815, again, if I'm not mistaken...

Your Gillet razor is I believe a "Gillet A Paris",
GILLET, 41 rue de Charenton, Paris
Around 1820-1839 (after 1839 it was Gillet fils ("Gillet son's"), 41 et 43 rue de Charenton, Paris)
