Its not as clean as I would like yet, but it does shave.
I have a 6/8 Torrey, not a full hollow, maybe half. But I need help! I have been completely unable to make this razor into a good shaver. It always feels like it is not sharp enough. I have read other threads in the past that said there are some razors that just won't take a good edge, I think maybe this is right. I have been straight shaving for over 2 years, and have a collection of about 20 different razors, all honed by me to completely shave ready. But this dadgummed thing is just about to get the best of me. The first pass is just not close enough, but it is okay after 2 passes. It passes the HHT as well as any razor I have seen. I guess the steel is just the hardest steel of any razor I have. Any suggestions or thoughts? anybody else experience this? It obviously is a quality razor, and I love the feel and weight of it.
Zues, I sent a PM.
I think Torrey steel is consistently the hardest razor steel out there. I t may be difficult to hone sometimes but once that hard steel takes an edge it will keep it.
I agree with Nun2sharp, Torrey's are great razors when honed properly. Some razors from the same manufacturer may hone up easy and others no so much. Contact Nun2sharp by PM and take his assistance or send it to someone with lots of experience honing razors to get the bevel set and a good first edge. Touch up should be easier than setting the bevel. The hone you/we use may also influence the speed in which a razor gets an edge. Some hones work better with harder steel, some with softer steel. For some weird reason time almost always relates to money. In this case, several sets of hones. If you don't mind the extra time one good set of hones will make do on the greater percentage of razors.
I believe I posted this before, but I just ran across this thread, so....

I have one Torrey which I picked up on the eBay and cleaned up myself...It is currently in the capable hands of Lynn and Don at SRD getting a good honing. I'll post pictures when I get it back...
