How about a group for the fan of the laughably cheap yet surprisingly good Double Arrows?

As simple as new scales, or totally overboard with new scales, JumboJimps(tm) thumb notches and Shezhuan points!

here is one of my DAs that Traveller pimped out. I have another one I'm doing a worked back and jimps on right now, (as well as grinding the shoulder off) but I haven't rescaled it yet, so no pix.
Some pics of my Work in progress.
The scales.

I've yet to do anything fancy with my DAs, but how can I resist joining the DADs razor club? :)
Well, my re-worked and re-scaled DA is finished :w00t:
My pinning needs some serious help, I may go with some Corby Bolts next time, as the peening of brass rod leaves lots to be desired.
All that is left now is to hone it up, and give it a go!
I spent a little time with the 15um film last night, still have a ways to go, one little flat spot in the bevel still, will likely be gone in 15 or 20 passes.
I present to you, the Flying V Double Arrow!
Scaled in Lacewood with 15 coats of spray on clear poly/acrylic(I forget)
Plexiglas spacer.
French point.
JuniorJimps(thanks for the name Seraphim)
Sloped tang.
Stabilizers removed from heel.
Balance point is just slightly blade heavy, but not noticeable unless you try and balance on your finger.

Ha! The scales tell you the name :D. That's cool! Good Job! :tu
Thanks for showing the way to go with the French Point!
I better post my stuff here too...
Seraphim, could you post a close up of your "Sezchuan" point? I am thinking of copying it for my other DA:D
Do'h
Oh well, it's cheap enough that I can experiment, hence the whole idea behind purchasing one :D
I just ordered 4 more.....
:D
gentleman,
here is my DAD
nothing fancy but i still have one more left

Seraphim yours look great
This is my DA, courtesy of Floppyshoes. Despite the small price tag, it's amongst my favorite shavers.

Just picked up a Double Arrow on eBay for a very nice price after reading this thread. For the price, it was tempting to grab a couple. I also noticed a link to SRP in the description, so hopefully my money is going to a member here.
Four more just arrived...
The scales on this bunch were much better assembled. The pics were tight, and the scales functional.
Looks like I should invest in Dremel bits!
The postman was good to me and brought me some goodies today, one of the being a fresh Double Arrow.

Plans right now are just a quick rescale and a hone up to shave ready condition.
Got mine yesterday and did some spine work on it. I am planing on making some scales for it but I wanted to shave with it so I sharpened it and shaved with it tonight. I do have to say the Double Arrow gives a great shave. I am working on another set of scales right now so as soon as they are done the DA will get some new shoes.
YES!!!
Welcome to The Club:D

I swapped vintage wood (not sure what kind) scales off a trashed antique blade and used adjatalbe pins at the pivot. Love my DA.
This Double Arrow is at least twenty years old. I got it from a lady whose husband died over twenty years ago and she couldn't remember when he actually bought it. Since there wasn't a strop or a hone with it, I would guess that he tried it out once or twice and put it away. It's in 'like new' condition and only needed a good stropping to give me a decent shave. It won't be part of my rotation, but I will keep it because it was a gift. I guess that doesn't qualify me as a devotee, but I am a happy owner.

The mailman was good to me also. I got two today one honed up really well and fast and gave a good shave, the other one is slightly warped but seems hone-able, both have fairly bad scales but they are usable. Not bad for $24.
Well the DA is about to get some new scales. :D They are Bocote and just rough cut right now but I will post some more as they get done.
Your DA has a PA nice! :roflmao
My rescaled DA is shown in this thread
Szechuan point, "General Gao" scalloped worked back, with JumbJimps and of course a thumbnotch. Spalted maple acryluminum(patents pending) scales
I'm surprised. I have two Double Arrows I got suckered into on E-bay and threw into the drawer and forgot about. I had no idea they could be any good, but I just dragged them out and will get the Dremel out and have some fun with them. Cheap they were. Cheap the scales seem, so they have to go. I guess one never knows. I need more imagination.
Thanks,
Don J.:)
I got the scales done and put on the razor last week. I can wait to get another!! Oh and it shave great :D (stole my pic from the SOTD)
How does one become a member of this little group? My first and only razor (so far) is a DA. :)
I just got a DA. Shanghai 200 that also has a 6 on the tang. Stropped on my Koken horse hide shell strop. 20 on the linen with Crox and 100 on the leather. Not a bad edge but it needs honed. That will happen tomorrow!
