Just read this incredible thread. Delighted so many sets still exist and are loved/utilized as intended. Thank you all for contributing.
I put this Joseph Allen set together earlier this year, all in ebony one piece scales. Someone called it a working man's set, which I thing is a fair description as I am one.

Sorry, forgot to say they are stamped Bengall on the tang and Toledo Hollow Ground on the blade. And yes they are very sharp !

Mine is marked "breveté SGDG", (patented without guaranty from the government), what could indicate that it was made in France ? Quite surprised about that. :shrug:

I love that craved set of scales. Ivory is kind of like asbestos. It is so useful and nothing else really compares to it, but it is so bad.
Set of 4, Wade and Butchers, Special, 5/8, round point. Early 19xx. NOS, never touched or honed.
