So where does the James Crookes fit into this little history? Is this Dad or is it a cousin?

Gentlemen, a short time ago I entered a large antique store with a mission: find a big Sheffield wedge to add to my 2 razor rotation. Amazingly with about a jillion square feet of floor space I only found 6 razors and only one of the 6 said softly, 'buy me please.' It was not big, it did not say Sheffield but it was a wedge and I immediately liked this razor and knew the place where I could learn more about it. Now, with no experience restoring a straight razor (and very little experience with straights in general) I felt like this blade needed to be in the hands of a pro. I made inquiries as to who (thanks Tarkus for helping in this, I'll thank Tarkus again in a minute). Just before I get ready to send out the razor I break a tooth...some of you know what this might mean financially even with insurance ...making a trip to the endodontist and the dentist....so sending the razor out is not an option at this time. But thanks to Tarkus and to the inspiration of Tarkus, I end up awhile back with this world class sanding jig. I begin the process which you can see from the pic is not complete and might not be until I recover from the dental incident.Attachment 121499
Apologies for the quality of the pic. I know I am not ready for the SOTD, one of my favorite forums on SRP. Any further insight into the razor other than what has already been posted in the Crookes club would be appreciated.

She's looking great, you have a wonderful treasure there. Its definitely coming into focus now.
Sorry to hear about the tooth. Remember you dont have any deadlines here. So keep up the great work.
Your friend,
Darl
I have a a Jonathan Crookes that i am currently restoring, it was a mess when i bought it, rusty. It's coming along nicely, I don't know what they are like as shavers though.
Here is my Brooks and Crookes 7 day set. Quite good condition!

Also, here is my Jonathan Crookes razor. A wonderful shaver!
Honestly, I am not qualified to tell you what kind of shaver the Jonathan Crookes is but I'll say that in my micro rotation, ( which includes a Fon 2000 Kinsyo, and a Morris Red Imp), since I got the Jonathan Crookes, I have not picked up one of my other razors. So maybe this is common, an infatuation with the latest razor to one's collection, but something about this razor....I would say that you will be paid back many times over for the number of hours you put into the restoration. My Jonathan Crookes is kind of in a mid restoration but feels finished in a way also, cracked scale, mistakes....but she shaves brother and I hope you share your experience when you have gotten as far as where you want to go with the black powder and heart.
I picked up a Jonathan Crookes yesterday in a small antique store for $15.00. It has black scales and the number 541 stamped on it. I want to have it honed so I can use it insted of the new razor I also have. I noticed there is no numbers on any of the razors in the photos. Is this number a model number or serial number? Anyway, Im happy to be on this site and I hope I can be a member of this club. Jim
Just got my one and only Brookes and Crookes 11/16 near wedge a while back. Honed up nicely and shaves the same way.
