Very nice razor.
I got a good Ern a few weeks ago, but it will be some time before I can restore it.
My 7/8 Crown & Sword I recently finished.

I have never met a Ern that wasn't a good shaver. What a Christmas gift, you are a lucky guy. Once you have it honed, you will see what I'm talking about...congrats! I think I have a couple of them IIRC, I know one is in my rotation...

I love blondes...And that's a nice razor too!! Great gift! I'm a newbie to this, still learning about quality razors. I appreciate everyone's posts. They've educated me a TON so far!
Just bought on EBay, an Ern "Mignon" with a worked spine:

Ugly old dog, but my first razor and still in rotation. Shave quality is up there with the big boys in my cabinet.
Just picked up this crown and sword with a nice size chip. I'm not sure whether to use it for honing practice or have someone with some skill attempt to even out the blade for me. Either way, I still enjoy it. Attachment 110367Attachment 110368
That chip can be blended in to the natural curve of the round point to where you would hardly notice it. Take your dmt 325 and put it to work...
Thanks for the advice shooter, I was able to round out the point in a natural way, I think, and it looks pretty decent. I was able to get it back to shaving condition but haven't started cleaning up the blade yet. I will post pics as I get them loaded.
I have a couple of ERN razors, great shavers. Have fun.

Heres the before and after Attachment 111420 got rid of that blade chip and it rounded out nicely. Waiting on some supplies to come in and Ill polish that blade up. In the meantime, its a great shave.
You did just fine my friend. Most of us polish blades before we hone as most polishing will effect the edge, even by hand. Just a bit of FYI for future reference...you will see.
I picked up an ERN Ator last week and I must say it is the UGLIEST yet COOLEST razor in my little collection. Kind of like an old Studebaker. Were these only made in 1903?
I can't let that pass! My Ator (11/16) is not only my favorite shaver, it is one of the loveliest razors in my collection:

I love the shoulderless heel of the blade, and the hump on the tang over the letters. To me, the whole shape is just super-elegant. And... shiny!
Mine was made a lot later than 1903 I believe - it has 'Thursday' written on the spine, and the method used was spark-etching, which I'm pretty sure wasn't around in 1903.
Elegant! Ha! We have very differen't tastes! I've got a bit more cleaning up to do on my Ator before honing it up. The razor is certainly growing on me... and hopefully she'll shave as well as I've been hearing about. Does anyone know if the serial number may correlate to the date of production? The serial on mine is O.M. 142302. The serial number is also stamped inside the scales and has 245 5/8 molded into the scales as well.
I have to contribute to this thread!

Orange one is sold, and the black scaled one was restored and is now also gone.
Got one with white scales, the same as the orange one above, it rests peacefully in my treasure chest.

I roca rule curse you, because you outbid me on eBay. Just joking enjoy.
I've gotta get some pics up of the spine on this baby. It's pretty unique. I think someone else here has one. Honed up nicely and gave an excellent shave today.

Here's my ERN, just as my Grandpa left it. I'd be interested to know when it was made, if anybody knows.
I can't find concrete information (yet) but something tells me this is an Ern...

I got these two ERN 10 Year Guarantee straights in September 2012 from ebay. Nuns from Blauvert, New York received straights from an estate of a man who owned a "grinding shop" that closed many decades ago and placed them on ebay as a charity auction. These were found in his shop in a 6 razor box, NOS. I've never had them honed. The factory edge was perfect I received them along with the J A Henckels NOS and the boxes and the 6 razor box. I also have a Crown and Sword. My first favorite razor, the ERN.

Thought I would finally share my small but humble Ern family.
Yes, the first 3 have gold wash... it's not a reflection and yes, the second one has a MOP tang intact on both sides.
Enjoy!

" 10 jahre garantie " since 1952 !! always a great shaver
I guess I can apply to become a member of this club now. Was looking for awhile to get an Ern when this one showed up. It is a 5/8 full hollow with MOP tang coverings. The odd thing is the gold wash on the blade saying Pearl. I could not find that trademark attributed to Ern. Has anyone more info on that and how common MOP tang coverings are on Ern razors?
