This is something quite special that doesn't show up often. A Josh Mappin & Brothers Lancet Edge Razor in rare great condition. Iconic maker and the blade is among the few unusual designs that do not compromise function.

There are not many of these that have survived the 170 years and most are in rather rough shape, even after a heavy restoration don't look quite right (to the point that people have commissioned replicas.)
This one is an exception as you can see. It was part of a treasure trove from about a decade ago (if I'm not mistaken). It was found, polished, and scaled by a member here going by the screenname Traveller (unfortunately the original thread has been deleted) but I have included a screenshot.
Notice the sharp grinding lines in contrast with the typical result you get from even highly regarded 'professional restorers' on razors from the same period.

The scales are unique, a custom resin he was making. They are custom cast in the exact shape of period scales and thus fit the razor perfectly. The color is amber with black and red 'flames' throughout, somewhat transparent. It is hard to capture well in the images, but I think you will get a reasonably good idea. The pivot pin is microfastener with stacked washers, the wedge as far as I can tell is glued.

This is a relatively large razor, the blade width is about 7/8, and it's longer than the current razors, about 3" instead of 2.75". The weight is 67g (standard dovo is 49g).

I am asking the exact same price as 9 years ago - $650 - and I will cover the shipping cost in US and the paypal fees. International if interested, would be somewhat higher, c.f. usps.com
