Default Joseph Rodgers & Sons 9/16 Spanish Point, Original Ivory Scales, Shave Ready

Offering a 9/16 Joseph Rodgers & Sons (Sheffield) quarter hollow ground Spanish point razor with original pre-ban ivory scales and lead wedge. The tang stamp reads Joseph Rodgers & Sons | Cutlers to Their Majesties | Sheffield. I believe that it dates from the 1870s-1880s.

There is minimal staining and light pitting on the blade but not near the edge. The tang stamp is quite clear. The scales came pinned with German-style washers, which is not normal for Rodgers, so it most likely has been repinned at some time. The blade shows signs of having been polished with greaseless compound.

I have unpinned the razor and cleaned the scales, wet sanding out the marks from the washers. The blade has been re-profiled to straighten a slight frown near the heel. The blade being narrow already, a minimum of steel was removed (less than 1/16”) from the heel to about the midpoint to correct this. The stabilizer was also re-profiled to clear the new edge. The razor was then re-pinned in the proper washerless fashion with nickel silver rod stock.

Pictures of the razor before this work can be found on my original listing here.

The razor is freshly honed on Japanese natural stones: sharpening and pre-finishing on a Shinden Hon Suita using a full Asano Mikawa Nagura progression (Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro, Koma), and final finishing on an Nakayama Asagi Suita with Tomo Nagura and then plain water. Honing was done with 1 layer of tape.

I purchased this razor very recently off eBay for $120.00; there were about 18 watchers so some of you have probably seen it. It's a very nice Rodgers, but just too narrow for me - I prefer at least a 7/8 blade.

Asking exactly what I paid for it: $120.00 with free shipping via Priority Mail. CONUS sales only, please. Please ask any questions, and thanks to SRP for offering this service to members!
