Thread: Japanese Cape 1000 Swedish Steel (6/8) For Barbers Use (Tanifuji design) Great Deal!

This great Swedish steel Japanese Razor is just an amazing Shaver, with its shoulderless, 6/8+ wide, quarter grind blade, it’s is for sure a Master's Design. It’s nicely balanced and despite its hardness, it’s really easy to bring to laser sharp on the hones. No wonder why the tang also read “For Barbers Use, First Quality”, this one is a pleasure to sharpen, and a pleasure to use!

There has been some discussion on the community about if every Cape 1000/2000/3000 was made by Tanifuji or not, or if made by perfect works or not, same with Club Razors. Certainly, one could argue that if the stamp of Tanifuji is not there then this was not made by him. I do agree with this. But there is also agreement that Tanifuji would not put his stamp on a razor model that he has not designed, so Either this was made by him, his Factory, or an operator on the factory after he has sold it, this design is Tanifuji’s. Also, I have had Cape and Club razors in my hands (100, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000) both with and without the stamps, and have compared in many ways, honestly, I would be forced to tell the difference.

Having said this, alas the Tanifuji stamp is not there and this also comes into account in the price. So… despite this is a really high quality blade (same as one stamped in my humble opinion) the price is a real deal…. A great opportunity if you decide to bring her home. As it’s well noted in detail in the pics, there are some marks in the tang, but the blade itself is in great shape and microscope check of the edger revealed no issues whatsoever near the edge area.

It comes shave ready (for my taste; that means, my beard, skin, shaving technique etc…), but maybe some more stropping is required for your taste. Honed on progression of Naniwas up to 12k and finished in SG20K. After honed and tested, the razor has been cleaned, disinfected. Then for protection, it will be oiled and wrapped in VCI paper and will safely packed for the travel.
