John Pitts (1797 -1859) was a razor manufacturer in Sims Croft by 1828. A later address was Trafalgar St. He brought his two sons, Charles and John into the business but Charles left in 1845 and launched his own business. A fair guess at the razor date would be 1830 - 1845. A 13/16 near wedge blade. Back of blade straight with spike point and single shoulder. Blade measures approximately 3 x just shy of ⅞. On shank "JOHN PITTS & SON - CELEBRATED RAZOR - 70 TRAFALGAR ST. - SHEFFIELD". Blade, polished and honed shave ready. A little light pitting here and there. Dyed horn scales soaked in neetsfoot oil. Sanded, bug bites and cracks filled with super glue and polished. Scales have silver escutcheon.

Light coat of oil for protection on blade. Please look at photos as they are best description.

Honing: One layer of electrical tape on spine. Bevel set on 600 grit diamond hone. Then 6000 water stone and finished on 12,000 oil stone, 20,000 Jasper, then glass plate. Then stropped on canvas with diamond paste and then leather and disinfected. A $18.00 VALUE FREE.

I personally test shave each razor before final disinfection. Shave ready is different to each person. Factors like light or coarse beard or beard length come into play. I have a heavy beard and test shave every razor on a two day growth. If razor gives a close comfortable shave I call it shave ready. If it does not shave right I re-hone the razor.

Payment due in three days.
