    Default Family Jackpot!

Today my Mother-in-law found a little gift for me. Her fathers and grandfathers razors. Seven straights to be restored for use. I'll be honing them up by the by and I'll put the picks in the SOTD as they reach the rotation.

For tonight I started with a NOS Shumate No. 35 round point. One conservative pyramid and it was ready to go.

That's one thing money can't buy

My mother talks about her father shaving with a straight and remembering him with a waterstone and strop. I'd love to be able to restore and shave with it but somewhere in the 50 years past they've vanished.

One of the things I love about straights is that 'heritage' part. Even when it's just shaving with an un-storied old antique. Getting a family heirloom like you did is great...being able to shave with it, even better. I'm crazy enough that for me, that would beat having an exotic new custom made razor.
