Question Help - need advice for present!

My boyfriend previously owned & used a straight razor but lost it whilst deployed in Afghanistan. I'd love to get him a new one for Xmas but have no idea where to start. He has large hands/fingers, shaves everyday and has normal skin.
He loves German made items for their quality.
Price wise I'm willing to spend a decent amount to get a good quality one, but $250 - $300 is probably my limit for the whole set.
Can anyone give me advice on size, brand etc!
    Thanks.

I would suggest looking at Straight Razor Designs. You can easily find a razor, brush, and strop within your budget(plus cream/soap, aftershave lotion or balm). They carry Dovo, Boker, and Aust razors, which are all German brands. SRD sells sets if that appeals to you. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

    Thanks for that!
Are you able suggest what size I should get him to suit his larger hand? I'm not really sure what all the numbers mean to be honest!

The sizes are referring to the blade width-edge to spine. 5/8 and 6/8 inches are the most common production sizes and should be fine for most people.

Do you happen to know what brand and model the lost razor was?

If he is still in the military (assuming that is how he was deployed) he might enjoy a 5/8 Boker with brown canvas micarta scales. Readily available, of very high quality, possibly the most durable scales on the market, and would leave enough funds for some accessories while still remaining within your budget.

You are a cool lady to buy him something like this. What ever you do make sure it is shave ready. Even new ones need to be properly honed.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
