    Default Cracked Wade and Buther

I purchased an awesome looking 7/8 Wade and butcher square point, unfortunately it has a half inch crack about a half inch from the shoulder. This is my first ebay misstep, but now I wonder if anyone has any ideas on what I can do with this razor? I am pretty sure the razor is unusable for it intended purpose, but the thing is too neat to throw out. Not to mention it is a piece of history, original scales and pins I believe. There is a local barber shop that has a straight razor display that I could donate to, but I kinda like it. Have any of you found uses for "useless" razors?

If it is one of the razors I saw on ebay the crack goes pretty far into the blade. Without an actual picture it is hard to say. I passed on it as I thought it would be too much work to grind it out and too risky in changing the temper of the steel. Hope someone else gives you better news. Good luck

Grind out a thumb notch or make it look nice for a dsplay?
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

well, call me crazy, but---I see that the crack runs right up to the heavier stock and stops. Have you thought about cleaning it up a little, honing it and trying to shave with it? So, you stay away from the heel when you're shaving. I just think it's worth a try and might work out better than you think. There's certainly nothing to lose.

I'd have sent that right back.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

Actually, I just restored a Wade & Butcher Celebrated FBU not too long ago that ended up having a small hairline crack towards the heel side. I have shaved several times with it and had no problems whatsoever. I probably wouldn't attempt to shave with a full hollow grind but these old FBU's tend to have a much stiffer grind.
