Thread: Henckels #415 Scale Repair-Ratty Ugly but Functional

Scored this Henckels #415 on the bay. It had a broken scale at the pivot and not functional. Decided not to rescale it as I liked the cracked ice and wanted to keep as much of the Henckels original identity as possible. Found some rather beat up silver end caps (lesson learned: never throw any parts away) that I was able to reuse them in lieu of the original brass inlays (lost/damaged).

Wired the cracked scale using thin picture framing wire. Cut off an inch and pulled out ultra thin three wire threads and used needle nose pliers to retighten the broken ends of the scale. Then applied several coats of CA glue. Let it dry and the filed the wire down flat with a small wood file so the flat washer was flush. Glued the silver end caps on with CA (epoxy may have been a better choice).

Cleaned the blade up with progressive sandpaper, 400 to 2000 grit then polished it up with MAAS. Reassembled using nickel silver pins and a stainless steel collar. Turned out a bit ratty but it remains a nice, fully functional Henckels #415, a great shaver! Thought I'd share.
