Unhappy with wacker razor?

Hi guys, new to this site and was hoping someone could give me their view on my new Wacker razor.first of the Wacker chevalier is gorgeous! However the blade closes right over to the right hand side (although it just misses the cutting edge on the scales) it only centres as it is fully pushed into the scales. Also when closed there is a small (but clear) gap between the blade and the scales (on one side only). The way I'm feeling is that for $360 these things should be spot on?

I am going to assume this is made with the Buffalo Horn scales???

If that is right, then you have to understand that Horn is a natural material and there are small inconsistencies that occur... Some people love that fact, others it drives to drink, but honestly if you want "Perfection" then do not order natural products.. Also man-made materials only increases the likelihood of consistency, not perfection...

Have you shaved it yet ????

Yes it's buffalo horn.....to be honest that probably wouldn't bother me if the razor sat centre in the scales. Haven't shaved it yet literally just got it. It has apparently passed 'many hanging hair tests before shipment' but failed on mine so I think I will hone and strop before I shave it!

I would try shaving with it before yo do anything to it. If you never honed a straight razor before odds are good that it will be worse off after you take it to the hones. If you are new to straight shaving I wouldn't even strop it before your first shave. Just my advice. Have fun with it.

As long as it came from a reputable dealer then it will be shave ready.
HHT is notoriously inconsistent and much has been written on SRP about it. If the razor was oiled after it was honed then it won't pass HHT anyway (from what I remember reading)

Uhhh, your more concerned with how it sits in the scales before you've even tried it on your beard? As long as when you close the razor it doesn't hit the scales on the edge I don't see a problem.

Regardless of how it shaves, and im sure it will be great it wont ever sit straight in the scales. Glad you dont see a problem.

I owned one Wacker razor and sold it as I was not happy with it for the price I paid. Yes, the scales were horn, but they were so incredibly warped it was not funny. For that price, I think it should be close to perfect.

Vendor agreed to exchange the razor, but shipped it back after only sanding down the scales. The vendor deceived me and I was never really happy with my Wacker. Others have a completely different opinion, but that is mine.

I've been thinking about ordering the "Chevalier" as I really like the Wacker razors. Like others have posted, once it has been properly honed it is a great shaver. Additionally, I would advise everyone to buy direct from Wacker.
