Well I think my avatar is appropriate for my issue !

Hey do you guys know if the Japanese ever made razors out of white or blue steel?

I would love to have a go at a white steel shave?

Some smiths use hitachi steels as a laminate on kamisori. eBay has some usually.
I had a Takahashi in recently, supposed to be white steel. Nothing unusual in the shave but more rust prone than blue .
Don't know of any single steel razors but they may exist.

I'm certainly no expert in this, but in my search for different Japanese westerns, I had a conversation with the seller about a particular Yasuki Specialty Steel razor. On the tang was YSS-S. I asked him what the -S was, and he said it stood for "Shirogami". I have seen multiple sources that said YSS shirogami steel is nomenclature for white steel.
If you google it you'll find different discussions on it, and elemental content...

I'm not sure of the make up of the SK's steel, though I believe they are made of Swedish Steel. Here's a picture of the SK1 and its box. If anyone knows the whereabouts of an SK2, I'll be very interested.

Sorry for late reply to this, skiing trip got in the way! I've got a mate who's working in Japan at the moment and he looks out for bits and pieces. He sourced the SK's through a Japanese internet buying site.
