The Thater brushes are really high quality and I think an exceptional value, I don't think you'll have a reason to 'upgrade' the brush or the strop for that matter to a higher quality. I personally don't like the latigo leather much and my favorite among the current production strops I've tried (from tony miller, srd, vintageblades, star shaving, i may be forgetting something) is the premium-1. But the latigo is much cheaper, will do the job very well, and it's a very high quality strop. Since it's modular you could swap the stropping piece at a later date if you want a different leather or put a bunch of nicks that bother you - it's a rather economical way for that.
I myself have settled on one brush, rooney's finest, but that's a very niche hair the cost is respectively premium, but it makes me very happy and over the lifetime it'll serve me the cost is really not all that important. But I've seen the Thater brushes of fellow shavers, tried a few and they are really, really nice. If my alternate brush that I rarely use wasn't sterling silver rebristled with dense shavemac finest knot which gives a very comparable feel, I probably would have a thater for that luxurious experience.
