Has anyone tried a Ruric straight razor?

Swedish company has just started a new line of straight razors called Ruric. They are had made of good swedish steel. I'd like to hear if anyone has tried one. Thanks

Last time I heard of it was about six months ago and back then at least, they didn't have any "Swedish" razors, just modified Gold dollars.

IIRC the guy gets unmarked gold dollars in bulk directly from the factory that he modifies and hones to make shave ready.

I noticed these a while back, and have been meaning to get one to check out, just haven't come around to it yet, but from how they look in pics I would say stay away.
The grind isn't even, strange looking honewear to be a "new" razor etc.

Thanks for the heads up. They are trying to sell them on ebay. Everything about the description leads one to believe they are handmade in Sweden. Straight Razor Ruric of Sweden | eBay

He's not the only person who thinks a clever brand slapped on something makes it worth considerably more.
I kind of feel bad for people who think that's the most valuable thing they can do.

All the ad says is that it's made of high quality carbon steel (pretty subjective) with the seller's logo printed on it.

Seems sketchy...at best.

BTW-Should it be discovered that these are indeed quality Swedish steel razors would someone please alert me :P

They claim their goal is to offer a shave ready alternative then go on to say the razors will be sold factory ready and would need honing before use.

Pretty darn confusing when a factory edge today is usually not fully shave ready as it leaves the factory with a few exceptions. They do not say they will hone it to shave ready prior to shipping only that it would need honing before use. Maybe you can guess exactly what they me, I certainly can't from what is in the description.

Hi guys

I'm the guy behind the Ruric of Sweden brand and I can fill you in on its history and what the product offer actually is.

My intention with the brand was to find a knifemaker in Sweden competent enough to produce new Swedish steel blades for me. I came some way in discussions with a well-known Swedish knifemaking company that sells internationally, but the profits weren't in it for them and the samples they produced were sub-standard in my opinion. They put me in touch with a knifemaker that owns the rights to a well-known old Swedish razor brand, but he seems to be making more money out of kitchen knives than razors. He had some NOS stuff lying around - but didn't bite. After that I considered going German and was offered a deal from several German razor makers, but I didn't fancy making a huge investment on something that is already sold everywhere. So, having already named my brand etc. I decided to look eastwards and found the manufacturer that makes razors for several brands - including Gold Dollar. I ordered some samples and they sharpened right up with a little work (perhaps a little more than might be needed on a new German razor). So I ordered a bunch.

Initially I was working 80% as an office jockey and so I had some time to hone them and sell them - but when I went back up to 100% in my office job I didn't have the time, so I started to sell them openly as 'factory ready'. I see no problem with that.

The way I see it is that these are a good starting point for a project razor, or as a cheap way to get into honing/shaving without having to buy a rusty razor that needs a full restoration on eBay. You may disagree and you have every right to.

In any case - I'm selling them for roughly the same price as a Gold Dollar (I see a set of 8 razors - (a seven day set plus one to practice honing on) for around $50.

I hope that this has cleared up a couple of wild speculations and set the story straight.

I'm not really interested in having a conversation around the quality of Chinese razors as everything thing on this subject has been said before. I fall into the 'they work' camp, for what it is worth ;-)

Most people can figure out that the same Gold Dollar razors without the etching on the blade can be had from other sellers for a tenth of what you are asking for them. Of course, that comparison would be easier if you disclose their origin in your ads.
