Cool Terry's no.3 identification help please

Hi all. Just picked I his up for 18 of my finest English from an antiques store to practice honing. Just about passed HHT after stropping, so shaved with it, and though it wasn't the best shave ever, it was close. If I can increase my honing skills it will be the best I've had I think. Love using it due to the weight.
For those that can't see, it says 'Terry no. 3' on the tang as well as 'Sheffield'

    Anyone know the history?

Also, anyone got honing tips, put it straight on my new Toishi Ohishi 3k/8k stone, then stropped. Do people usually go higher than 8k?

    Help with either appreciated.

    Ta.

    The Trench

P.S The blade is slightly over 15/16ths. I think it's quite I find but I'm inexperienced. Any opinions?

I think that it is likely a great find, it looks to be in great shape. I have no info of the razor, although the absence of England stamped on it could date it pre 1891. You should be able to get a great shave off of an 8K. However I am completely unfamiliar with your hone.

I'm sure there is info out there. Be patient, those in the know of the historical information will be along in due time

    Looks like a great find!

I have a Norton 4k/8k and can not get a razor to pass a HHT off of the stone. I need to strop with Iron oxide paste, then leather to get a HHT-4. which gives an OK shave, but still a little stubble left on the chin. I'm still learning to hone, and I haven't been able to get anything better than that.

The Ohishi 8k should be finer than the Norton if it is JIS which Norton is not. So you may be able to get a good edge off it without paste.

I'm thinking about getting the Ohisihi 8k/3k as well. Hopefully someone else can chime in with experience on these hones.
