What are razor knives?

Razor knives are seen on ebay. How are they different than regular razors?
They look somewhat the same.

I think they are just cheap, mass produced rubbish. I only say that as Neil Miller did a straight buyers guide for a UK forum and advised to avoid anything claiming to be a razor knife.

I have heard some European members, many Swedish, refer to their straight as a "knife" as well. I had a keen F.W. Engels I acquired from Manah (Alex) that I often referred to as my "knife".

Yes in Sweden they are raknives or something very similar, and a Swiss friend calls it a knife.

Swedes call 'em rakknivar, Norwegians call 'em barberkniver.
Both translates to shaving knives

I was referring to the far eastern trash in that thread, not decent norwegian, swedish, etc brands, as I think is quite evident from the article.

IF you're referring to the folding pocket knives that resemble a razor, from what I can gather, they are cheap knock offs of what was originally designed as a knife for a one armed man.

After the War of Northern Aggression, the US had large numbers of amputees. Inventors created all types of instruments to make use by a one armed person easier. That type of knife was one of many designs. The blades were originally hollow pointed in order that the hollow point could be hooked on a convenient pocket edge and the knife opened for use.

The design hung around and devolved to where it is today.

The ones on eBay are pocket knives shaped sort of like a straight razor. They won't take a shaving edge and are about worthless as a knife.

I guess some people think they look sort of cool.

I bought 5 junk razors in a "lot" on ebay just to get this "razor".






I paid about 1/10th for the whole lot of stuff as to what one of these usually sells for on ebay.

That is a Miller Bros, Meriden, Conn "rope knife".

Been wanting one for years, refused to pay through the nose. Lucked out and didn't have to on that deal and three of the razors in the lot were salvageable and one was NOS!

Every once in a while a blind hog finds and acorn.
