Thanked: 4Surprising and Ironic Find!
So I recently received my first razor in the mail, haven't even had it honed yet, and by some joke I learned of a razor handed down in my family but put aside by generations before me. I showed my grandparents a picture of my new razor yesterday -- to see their reaction to my embrace of old ways -- and, as luck has it, my grandmother told me about a razor she still has which belonged to my great, great, great grandfather. I actually forget if it's two or three 'great's but, either way, that's a while back. In fact, I estimate it around 1900 if my ancestor purchased it new at 20 years old. If it's my grandfather's side (I don't remember this detail either...), that places the razor in old Germany; if it's my grandmother's side then it's a pot luck of the entire western world. That's assuming that my great, great, possibly great again, grandfather was the original owner. Bonus points: My grandmother also has a strop (possibly the one to come with it) unused and in the original packaging.
I am going to interrogate them the best I can and get a picture of that razor. I can't wait to read the community's response to the find. In fact, I am posting this the day after the discovery because I am too impatient to get pictures before telling people. Man, I have never been excited for antiques before...
Stay tuned!
EDIT: The blade is my great, great grandfather's. I would date it around 1930 then, assuming he made the original purchase.Last edited by Sirnanigans; 09-23-2014 at 01:22 AM. Reason: Clarity and Dates
