Wedge can be two things: the shape of the blade or the tiny sliver of material keeping the scales apart. Wedge-less would indicate that the scale don't have a tiny sliver of material keeping them apart. See this in the wiki.
That's very helpful. Thanks for the link. For the "wedge" referring to the shape of the blade, is that sort of a blade with little or know hollow?

A true wedge has no hollow, a near-wedge has a very shallow hollow. See here
