    I found a new blade I'm trying to get some info on. It is a pre 1891 7/8 wade and butcher. What I want to know is if the blade had a barbers notch at one time and maybe someone modified it or was it forged this way? I 've never seen one that looked like it. Has anyone else?     Am a newb, but I believe I saw a couple like that browsing a thread on "tapered blades". Might also have been "tapered spine".

    Not a tapered blade. If you look at the ledge on the tang, that would have extended along the whole blade. This one was heavily reshaped, likely originally had a barbers notch. It probably looked something like this:
