If I get my hands on some extra cash, I'll have to get my hands on one of these puppies just to see what all the fuss is about.

Don't do it Ilija. They are OK, but at best finicky to hone. Get a TI or Dovo for the money.

Thanks for the tip Lynn. It sounds like an interesting challenge, but I wouldn't be paying a browny (CDN slang for $100 as the bill is brown) for the priviledge.
Masher, it looks like you have a razor with honing issues and I'd like to give that specific make/model a shot.. How about a teamup?

i've got myself one of the old 14's coming in the mail. i heard the new filly's aren't quite up to par with the old filly's (i common trend) so i grabbed a decent one when the chance came along.

I am one of the lucky ones with a rare NOS Novodur barber's use but let me say that Joe Lerch spoke very highly of the one sold at CS too.

For those who don't know him - he has used quite a few razors and was quite the expert

    Cheers

If your still having problems with the Filly, bevel it on 1000 grit with a taped spine and start from there. I couldn't get mine to do anything so I went to this step and now it's one of my favorite shavers.

Finally got the Filly to sharpen. I got a 1000 grit shapton and used that to get the bevel right. Then it was back to the 4000/8000 norton with most o fthe time on the 4000. I finished off with 10 very light strokes on a 12000 shapton. It's gonna take some fine tuning, but right now it's not bad.
