    Default Dubl Duck Model Question

I got a few nice Dubl Duk razors as trades/purchases with various members here and had a few model questions.

    I know the major ones:

    Wonderedge
    Goldedge
    Satinedge
    Satin Wedge
    No. 1 Special
    Dwarf

But....what do the "Pearlduck" and "Bresduck" designators signify?

I have a #1 Special with Bresduck on one side and another #1 Special on the way with Pearlduck on it. Same with the Wonderedge/Goldedge models, they also say either Bresduck or Pearlduck on them as well.

Also, scale materials. While I hve seen a very few oddballs with black scales it looks like all the Wonderedge/Goldedge models are faux MOP, the Satinedge/Satin Wedge are translucent and the No.1 Specials/Dwarfs are yellow. Others?

Are there any other models I am missing out there? BTW, I am still after other versions I don't have.....buy or trade.

    They were the names of the manufacturing company. Bresduck became Pearleduck. before that I think it was Bresnick. That's how mine reads. Uniclectica says;

    BRESDUCK INC.
224 Canal Street, New York City
Also used trademarks "DUBL-DUCK", "LIFETIME", "NAPOLEON", "BEAU BRUMMEL", "DEUTSCH", "SATINEDGE"
ca. 1930 - 1952; firm became known as Pearlduck in 1952

    PEARLDUCK, INC
224 Canal St., New York City
    Trademark: "DUBL DUCK"
    Formerly Bresduck, Inc.
    ca. 1947 - 1952

So beau brummel was a sub-brand of dubl duck? Or did bresduck just later buy the beau brummel brand?

Beau Brummel was an independent maker of razors and they were sold widely. They just had some arrangement with Pearlduck and they became exclusive distributer for the BBs in the U.S from that point on. You will notice those BBs have the address of DD in Jamaica, N.Y on them which the others didn't have and they used scales similar to the pearlduck DDs (the cracked ice ones)

I'm not a DD expert, but the missing models that jumped out at me were the "Lifetime" and the "Grim Reaper" models.

DD has sold razors under all kinds of names. Originally their razors said Bresnick on them, then they switched to Bresduck and then they became pearlduck. As you get more of their razors you see the progression. Some of the early razors are marked lifetime and do not mention double duck and in fact have a rooster on the tang. Some of the later ones have the DD brand but no pictures of the ducks, they came later. Then they also sold razors totally unrelated to DD but made by others. Puma for example made some that said Puma on one side and DD on the other. And there were others.

From your list your missing the Satin Baby and Stainless Duck. They also made many razors with no models on them. Originally the lifetime series were the better razors but I think as they changed ownership to be pearlduck the edge models became to good line and the lifetimes were discontinued.

Ahh yes, the Satin baby. I had forgotten that one. There was another model that sold on eBay a week or so ago but I can't remember it's name.

I know of the Grim reaper but didn't realize it was a Duck too. I was really only after those with the Dubl Duck name actually on the razor or handle.

    Thanks,

I found the missing names I was thinking of. There was a black or tortoise handle "StyleEdge" which looked like a 3/8 hair shaper and also a "Special Edge" There were actually two of those on eBay last week but one said the more common "Special N0.1" while the second actually said "Special Edge". Neither was in good shape but both were marked with ducks.

I'm pretty sure the "Lifetime" and the "Grim Reaper" are one and the same. My Lifetime razor (someday salvageable, I bought it rusted and with broken scales) has the word "Lifetime" written on the scales, but then at the bottom of the scale (bolster?) is a small figure of a grim reaper...
    I could be wrong though.
