Thread: Help identify my first straight

To start the new year I decided to take the plunge and get into straight shaving. I went with a sight unseen (regular) from Larry at Whipped Dog. I just shaved before it arrived so while I wait to use it (it came honed and will pop hairs off my forearm) I have been trying to identify the make. It is marked "Black Diamont", "E. A. Co.", "Made in Germany", "S. Slone". I think the latter may be added from a previous user? If anyone can tell me more about the origins of this razor (make, year range) I would appreciate it. Looking forward to joining you all in this hobby/journey/calling! Very helpful place this.

Have heard Larry puts a nice edge of his blades so you should enjoy
Remember DONT strop it for your first shave, so you know how it should feel and don't kill the edge learning to strop

I'd guess that S Slone was probably the retailer of the razor. A lot of hardware companies / retailers had the razors that they sold branded with their name. E.A. Co will be the maker. Sorry, I can't help you with any information on them.

Little Man Black Diamont Straight Razor

The Razor:
Circa 1900s-40s. Great Condition. E.A. Company. Black Diamont. Made in Germany. No chips or cracks to the bone handle. Rust free. Slight oxidation. Blade has been sharpened but not recommended for shaving without proper restoration.
2 3/4" blade edge length. 5 1/2" handle length. 9 3/4" open length.

The gentleman who shaves with this razor:
Carlos "The Little Man" Marcello (February 6, 1910-March 3, 1993) was a Sicilian-American mafioso who became the boss of the New Orleans crime family, during the 1940s and held this position for the next 30 years. Rumor has it that Marcello was somewhat involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He may be small (Marcello and Black Diamont) but little can be deadly. Be careful!

It seems that everyone was "somewhat involved" in the Kennedy assassination. I was only a couple years old but my connection had something to do with the Lone Ranger. For that reason, both his and my razors are more valuable.

Yeah, pretty sure my razor is not the same as this one, unless it significantly wore out more between this Etsy sale and getting to Larry. I just loved that description and had to add it here. That said, I guess few of us will know about the lives of men who shaved before us.

My deceased uncle, Thomas Eli Davis III 1936-1973, is mentioned in every book about who shot John.
