Titan Razor

I just received the Titan razor that I bought, new, off eBay from the Polish distributor of the razors:



I am actually overwhelmed by the quality of the razor. It came "shave ready" sharp and with a high quality leather case. The fit and finish is really amazing for a relatively inexpensive razor. The eBay blurb claims that the razor is actually of Japanese manufacture with Japanese steel, and that the distributor is in Poland. Whether this is true or not I cannot say, but the sharpness of the blade indicates to me a very high quality steel. It took almost 4 weeks to arrive from Poland after I paid for the razor. This long time for delivery may well be because of the Christmas overload of packages to be delivered both on the foreign end and in the United States.

I know there is a history on this forum regarding these Titan (and Gold Dollar and Gold Monkey) razors. I don't want to add to the controversy, simply reporting that this Titan razor is, in my opinion, a phenomenal value, easily comparable to the Dovos and Pumas in my collection.


I also received a Gold Dollar 800 today that was ordered several weeks ago. This 800 series also looks like a high quality razor. I haven't yet really had time to unpack and scrutinize the fit and finish and shave quality, but on the surface that razor also appears to be on par with the other high quality brand razors in my collection. I know Lynn and SRP don't particularly like Gold Dollar, but, I gotta tell you I'm pretty well impressed at least with the 208's and this 800 Gold Dollar.

If there is interest I could report on my evaluation of the Gold Dollar 800 after I scrutinize it.

I would appreciate it if you would not refer to any razor as "shave ready" until you personally shave with it.

I don't object to someone preferring a beard and not shaving, only to someone with NO experience shaving with straight razors categorizing them as shave ready when they have no basis for the statement.

Now that's really getting into silly semantics, isn't it? The razor came in a condition of sharpness that I would consider ready for someone to try to shave with it. That is my definition of "shave ready". I don't need to have to shave with it, just to consider the razor "shave ready" for someone who wishes to shave with it. I may be a newbie, but I can certainly tell very sharp from not so sharp from dull. The Titan razor came very sharp, on par with razors that I have sharpened on progressions of stones or on CBN strops. If you wish I will refrain from using the term "shave ready" unless I'm quoting someone else or a vendor.

We don't need this kind of expertise here. You can offer it and make your recommendations how people can best do something you don't do yourself somewhere else.

We have a body of knowledge here based on years of hands on experience of shaving our faces with razors that , in many cases we've honed, or a honemeister has honed. It is not 'silly semantics'. You, based on your sharpening razors on progressions of stones, or on CBN strops may have an impression of sharp ......... but until you shave with one, all we have is your impression.

I wouldn't mind, but newcomers to the site may read your posts and think you know what you are talking about. I am not convinced that you do. So ....... piease don't call it shave ready unless you have shave tested it. I've asked nicely.

I'll be more blatant and say anyone who proclaims a razor shave ready without shaving with it is committing fraud.

I hope your Titan is truly shave ready. Factory fresh Dovo's and Boker's are also advertised and sold as shave ready, but my experience's do not support their advertising claims. I also hope you have a Dremel tool or good file to remove the stabilizers. There difficult to hone with stablizers and have been known to make unsightly scratch marks on nice expensive strops.

Actually, I have a Titan straight razor. Simply, it is a Gold Dollar razor with a new suit on.

You can put a GD in gold scales and it will still be a GD.
