is it from top of spine to edge or bottom of spine to edge? in the middle or at toe or heal?
I measure from top of spine to widest point , then at smallest point from edge to spine if the blade is tapered or smiles
examples ..
7/8 for a consistent blade width across blade
12/16-7/8 from heel to toe
is it right ?? I don't know but that's how I do it ..lol
If you're selling the razor on Ebay, you measure from the top of the spine to the edge and add about 1/4 inch.
If you are buying on Ebay look for a seller who tells you how long the razor is but does not tell you how wide the blade is.....
And I am pretty sure I know the 4/8; 5/8; and so on to mean the razors width from spine to razors edge in terms of inches??? In other words a 8/8 to be a 1" in distance from spine to edge < or cutting edge????

So is this one just over 7/8 or 17/16?
That is why as a seller you should put in a gauge in photo like that and no mention of size. The buyer can come to their own conclusions about the width. There are some buyers who want to quibble over a small fraction of an inch or a silly mm. Me, I'd say it was big enough for me and run with it.

Yes it is ED :<0)
I think its easier to measure the new way to avoid the inconsistency. But i do like the pictures that show length/height. Especially when most give a length of the whole razor closed or open.
The old way above is the way Herr Wacker measures blades,Have bought and sold alot of Wackers.
For marketing purposes I always used the new way,Is an American thing, bigger is always better:)
It is just two "Different ways"
If you mess with enough NOS razors you are going to realize that the measurement is simply a "Brand" related decision nothing more nothing less..
IMO the most accurate way is Top to Bottom and say that is how it is measured..
On a tapered blade I give two measurements Tall & Short ie The edge tapers from 7/8- 6/8 :p
If you look at Ducks (nos or close) that come with their original boxes they are measured from the hone angle method. ( the short way).
If you did that with the old wedges with hone wear, some would be 5/8 not 8/8 :<0)
