Just got my first frameback, not the traditional where the blade is inserted into a frame but the type where the frame is an addition to the spine to get the correct honing angle. I love it. It's big, heavy and gives such a good smooth shave. It's a Wostenholm IXL.
Also love the frame backs. I have a Wostenholm IXL also plus a Joseph Rodgers & Sons, both Sheffield steel and excellent shavers.
Love the frame back razors...those and my Sheffields complete me.....:o
I believe everyone should have at least one in their rotation.
I fully appreciate the framebacks and faux framebacks.

Never had one. But can't push myself to find one. I just don't like the way they look. .... my € 0.02
I've seen some really interesting framebacks and would like to get one eventually. .
Whats not to love, there easy to maintain and shave like the devil.
There just perfect.
I like the faux if they are not too light. The heavy-framed Wostys and Swedes are great!
Love my Wade & Butcher frameback. Beautiful shaver.

I only have one in the rotation - love it!
I love them. I've got a very old Wostenholm frameback which is one of my best shaving razors. It never seems to ever need honing. I've also got a custom Brian Brown frameback that I had him make for me as a modern interpretation of the Mappin Lancet Edge.
Well I don't hate 'EM but I don't love 'em either. I prefer a more traditional look.
Yea, pretty well sums it up for me too. They are not as aesthetically pleasing to my eye as the traditional blades and look, to me, like they are cheaply made. By cheaply made I do not mean inferior materials just quicker and easier to mass produce by their design. I can't fault their ability to give superb shave though.

Actually, I found out for the most part that this is a supposed myth, they are actually more expensively made and tend towards higher quality razors, as to put the various parts together, the sometimes mixing of various metals, take considerably more craftsmanship than the single blades...
I have several framebacks, Sheffield, Swedish and Japanese and love them all. IMO, bevel angles are a major consideration when honing them..
Love em...... that's all I have to say about that.
Exactly, I have a Greaves frameback that tape created too steep of an angle on. I tried honing it with Super 88, 33, and regular tape and the angle was still too steep and made for a less than comfortable shave. Despite my wishes I went au-natural and she shaves great. The spine was not treated nicely in its 100+ years thus my initial insistence on using tape but it is what it is.
I have one and I LOVE it! :tu
Interesting you have brought this up, Nelson. I have a Tally Ho faux-frameback which is giving me a bit of trouble. Two trips and 'not quite there' shaves with one layer of tape. Seems to have a good bit of hone wear on the spine, but maybe not? Bevel is even, not too wide, not too thin.
Anyway, this time I added another layer and hit the Escher quite a bit. If things worsen or remain the same, perhaps I will go tapeless on it and begin anew. Just wanted to try it as I have some time in with the tape. ;)
The shaves got better as the tape got thinner and ultimately eliminated.
Well, I have been accustomed to only hearing and feeling the edge as I use tape exclusively. The spine rubbing upon the hone is something I abhor and am not used to. Still, I suppose I will get through it, if needed! ;) Thanks for the info. I suppose measuring spines on other razors of the same width would give a clue as well. Anyway, shave test tomorrow morning after adding tape and a pile of Escher. Half-slurried, half-clear. This would be a finisher double-bevel. I shall report back.

Love the shave, hate the flawed design ie a soft substitute for a spine that harbors gunk & rust in every crevice.
Love my Swedish frameback. Excellent shaver.
Well, My Tally Ho really responded to an extra layer of tape and the finisher. Perfect shave this morning!
I suppose I should have gone with two layers to begin with, but this (Zowanda?) treatment brought it in fine.
